We had to begin the September Third Ear podcast with TREAD’s Opacity Omen because our PR company head recently compared it to Carl Craig’s best work. No feint praise. The rest of the podcast heavily features this month’s release by newcomer Filippo Blasi Foglietti. Patrik Skoog’s Saturnian Acid is also featured. This is one of the tracks on his Exit Earth lp,  released in October. Be prepared for one for one of the year’s best Techno albums in our opinion. Classics from Kelli Hand and Brendon Moeller sit beside Ricardo Jefferson’s A Brutal Truth overlooked by most, except Ricardo Villalobos who was into the track in a big way. Lorca Music’s deep and dark remix of Pirahnahead’s Self Conscience also features in what is overall a deep and dark selection. Two Wbeeza joints showing his class and his diversity wrap up the podcast.

PREMIERE: TJ Groover - Hold Me [Clubby Boy]

Our pal and DJ extraordinaire Tamas Jones emailed us last month with an early Spencer Kincy mixtape he'd uncovered from the very early '90s, which was given to his ex-girlfriend by Kincy himself when she was living in Chicago around that time.

His music, most often released under the name Gemini, was a critical part of the house music revival in Chicago around the mid-'90s, along with artists like Derrick Carter and DJ Sneak. Kincy's releases on key labels like Planet E, Peace Frog and Relief were played by the greats of the time, and his DJ sets were incredibly eclectic, astonishingly programmed and completely unique. He was truly one of Chicago house's greatest talents. 

After a brief move to San Francisco in 2000, Kincy returned to his home town in a bad state. He isolated himself from his friends and the music scene, and ultimately ended up homeless. Since then his whereabouts are somewhat of a mystery, and despite his music still being in hot demand with collectors and lovers of classic house music, it's unclear if much of it will ever exist outside of the original limited vinyl releases. 

With this in mind, it's even more exciting to come across this little nugget of house music history. Big thanks to Tamas for allowing us to share this. Enjoy!
