'Broken mirror' is about not seeing one's self clearly as if I was seeing myself in multiple broken fragments of broken mirrors. The song is about seeing something and then missing it again, over and over. In contrast, I wanted the chorus to offset that with an intense and emotional plea "I know that I've never been apart from you." 
I wanted to set a premise lyrically in the verse, like a bow that's tightened, and then with the chorus you release the tension, and the arrow is released. 
Musically, there's really strong inspiration of British folk music in this song. Songs that have been written way before the age of the modern songwriter, not knowing who the songs were written by, old songs…

'Wait by the Water' was recorded a few months ago at the theatre de l'Athénée in Paris with the gifted violinist Jasser Haj Youssef.
I wrote it after having finished Between Dogs and Wolves album with the live show in mind. I wanted to sing something that would work as a way of tuning ourselves into the right frequency in order to listen to quiet and intimate music.

I first sang this song in 2010 when my friend Mauro Durante invited me to perform with his band Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino at the festival Le Notte Bianca in Puglia. 'Bella ci dormi' was traditionally sung by musicians under the balconies of women who were being proposed to but the tradition of the serenade and the custom of paying a musician to sing as a gesture of love has all but disappeared. Even if the concept of the serenade could do with a little C21st tweaking, I can’t help thinking that making a mixtape or a digital playlist for someone doesn’t have quite the same romantic quality as being sung to under a balcony in the light of the full moon but I may be wrong! 
 
Mauro visited me recently at home as we were writing the lyrics for a song on the new album called Bring down the wall, my words in English, his in the Salentino dialect. In between writing lyrics, we also found the time to record together a new cover for Vol II of Songs I Love.

Here’s 'Bella Ci Dormi', as always it’s a simple, no frills recording with Mauro on violin and me on guitar. I really hope you’ll enjoy it!

For years, Hadi Hosri has been working in the shadows of music, as an engineer and sound designer, his talents usually tend to pop up in many film scores and bizarre projects he could get his hands on. In the recent frame, Hadi shifted his talents to match a submerged taste he had for electronic music.

“Leftovers” in its simplest form is a mixture of Hadi’s influences and culture, bringing in a form of twisted jazz with the distorted Rhodes, which suddenly mixes in with an oriental horn sample. The Dynamics of the track are really what brings it to life, especially apparent with the drums that carry the track with a certain bounce, which keeps you in a sonic airspace that this artist has carefully created just for you, topped off with organic ever-changing claps and twisted rotating percussion to give it that sense of realism which is a sort of trademark for the artist.

Mayhm being a long time friend of Hadi’s and having spent quite sometime in the studio together this year, jumped at the chance to remix the track. Although remixing might not be the best word to describe the outcome of the track, a beautiful piece of Chaos would be better used, an unsynchronized, raw, tale in which these artists seem to meet perfectly between a classical background and a knack for absolutely destroying all things logic.
