Premier épisode de mon projet de série de podcast documentaire “Et toi, c’est comment ta vie de DJ?”.

Ce projet a pour objectif de réfléchir sur notre scène, et de parler de la vie des artistes de musiques électroniques sous le prisme de la santé mentale. Entre janvier et juin 2024 je me suis donc entretenue avec des artistes mais aussi des expert•es (professionnelle de santé, journaliste, activiste etc) pour évoquer les différents enjeux auxquels peuvent être confronté•es les artistes de musiques électroniques. 

Toutes les interviews ont été enregistrées dans le studio de la Gaité Lyrique que je remercie chaleureusement pour leur accueil en résidence. 

Il y aura 4 épisodes thématiques en tout. Voici donc le premier qui aborde la question du métier passion!

For the non French speakers, I’m launching a documentary podcast project in French to reflect on our electronic music scene, and talk about DJs life and mental health. There will be 4 episodes, each one dealing with a specific thematic and featuring health practitioners, artists, and other experts. 



Et toi, c'est comment ta vie de DJ ? - Episode 1 : Le métier-passion

W133 presents its first solo EP by label Papa Pino Peña!

It’s the first full release by him on the label, for which he has crafted 3 new original tunes in his signature percussive sound, along with one re-released track!

First up is rumba-driven tech house wobbler “Little Closer”. The UK-influenced stabs and the cheesy vocals do indeed make you want to move a little closer together on the dancefloor and shake it out. On A2, “Iramam” comes rumbling in—a highly swung percussive stomper with melancholic pads and mystical choirs setting the mood as it flows away.

On the flipside, the vibrating pads of “Run” come creeping in. The energetic yet emotional techno tune develops like a long run through the city in an early 2000s video game. It was initially released on a VA in 2021 and has since then gained many festival and club plays. Now it will be released for the first time on wax.
The last tune on the record is “Cama Loca”—a bouncy, shaky house tune with tons of percussion and freaked-out creepy melodies, which will make you feel like everything is spinning once you close your eyes!

As always, the release is accompanied by a carton cover sleeve with an analogue photo from Philipp Roth. 100 vinyl copies and everywhere digitally available from 04.07. on.

Snippets - Pino Peña - Little Closer [W133011]

Berlin-based artist Marie Tjong Ayong delivers a captivating four-tracker with her "motherland" EP, which unfolds like a sonic ritual—earthy, dubby, and steeped in natural rhythm. Navigating fluidly between dub techno, grey area, downtempo, and breakbeat, the EP carves out its own genre-blurring identity. The sound is rooted in a warm, organic atmosphere, driven by percussive detail and an unmistakably natural flow.
You can sense Marie’s background as a trained jazz trumpeter in the subtle musical intelligence that underlies each movement. From the driving, rhythm-heavy opener "freshelle" to the introspective, bass-laden "tiger balm", the EP continuously shifts form and energy. "desert of boredom" maintains the dub-soaked aesthetic while injecting a more forceful groove, before "rodeo of the bugs" rounds things off with deep, muted dub techno and refined percussive finesse.

About Marie Tjong Ayong

Marie Tjong Ayong is a Berlin-based producer, vinyl-DJ, and trumpeter.
Her sound weaves percussive lushness, warm harmonies, and genre-defying grooves into immersive, abstract sonic spaces. Airy, dreamy, and deeply groovy, her music invites listeners into a world shaped by texture and emotional depth, often reconnecting with her roots through layered sound design.
Born in 1994 to a jazz musician and a music teacher, Marie picked up the trumpet at the age of 12. From 2014 to 2019, she studied jazz trumpet at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln.
Her versatility and unique voice have since made her collaborator in a wide range of projects—from modern jazz ensembles like Leon Plecity’s Extraordinary Machine to Afrobeat and hip-hop collectives such as HYPNAGOGIA. She is also a member of the Rundfunk-Tanzorchester Ehrenfeld, the house band of ZDF Magazin Royale with Jan Böhmermann.
Marie Tjong Ayong’s work blurs boundaries—not only between genres, but between the tangible and the imagined.

Inner Zone returns to space•lab with an immersive EP exploring the meeting point of deep techno and progressive minimalism, shadowy rhythms and spatial resonance. 

Folded Realm opens the release with a hypnotic pulse, drawing from the darker edges of the Inner Zone sound with precision and restraint. Goa’s Kohra steps in on remix duties, transforming the original into a tunnelling techno weapon — dense, focused, and primed for the floor.

Spiral Form is a slow-burn evolution, unfolding in layers of submerged textures and flickering synth work. Closing the EP, Fallout breaks formation with a menacing, breakbeat-driven excursion through scorched sonic terrain.
