Mark Dwyer demonstrates the pipe organ at Holy Cross Cathedral in Boston. The organ at Holy Cross Cathedral in Boston is the largest extant example of the artistry of that Boston firm. When it was completed in 1875, Opus 801 was the largest yet built pipe organ in America. The organ has 5292 pipes and boasts 39 ranks of mixtures, a cornet on every division, and 13 ranks of reed pipes, including three reed stops which were manufactured in Paris, by Henri Zimmerman.

The Restoration of the pipe organ at Our Lady of Refuge Church is now complete thanks to the help and support from many. Boston Organist Mark Dwyer recorded Widor's Final from Symphony # 6  on September 15, 2013 at Our Lady of Refuge in Brooklyn. We thank him for taking the time to come and record this work - as his donation to the organ restoration project. This is a unedited performance. 

The pipe organ will be played in public for the first time since the restoration on October 18, 2013 at its dedication and blessing. Olivier Latry, one of the world's most celebrated organists, a titular at Notre-Dame Cathedral Paris will play the organ. Before the recital begins Bishop Nicholas Anthony DiMarzio, the Ordinary of Brooklyn, will bless the organ with Father Michael Perry, Pastor of Our Lady of Refuge Church using a catholic French blessing service - in which Olivier Latry will improvise on the organ in between short prayers.

Organist Mark Dwyer demonstrated the organ reed stops on the newly restored pipe organ at Our Lady of Refuge in Brooklyn. These pipes were all clean, repaired, with new brass wedges added, new tuning wires, new spotted metal slots added with corrective voicing by David Schopp of A.R. Organist Renee Anne Louprette recorded Christmas Music at Our Lady of Refuge Church in Brooklyn, New York. These are posted to thank all the people that made the restoration of this pipe organ possible. Last year at this time the organ was silent - the parts of organ were hundreds of miles away from the church. This pipe organ was restored by A.R. Recording of Ken Cowan playing a Christmas Carol on the pipe organ at Our Lady of Refuge Church. This organ was just restored. This recording was made with Sound Devices Digital Recorder and a pair of Neumann KM 130 spaced 13" apart. Hats off to David Schopp of A.R. Schopp's Sons for restoring all of the 80 year old reeds that used to sound like a bunch of kazoos in heat.

Ken Cowan came to visit Brooklyn NY and recorded a few things on the newly restored pipe organ at Our Lady of Refuge. The restoration was beautiful complete through the combined work of A.R. Schopp's Sons and Quimby Pipe Organs. (that is Mark Dwyer sitting next to Ken - I could not get a duet out of them)

It contains music notes written by the German musicologist Peter Wollny and Silbermann Organ expert Marc Schaefer.
