Lead track IDOMTYK (I don’t only make techno you know) is the mission statement here, a molten crucible built from shards of warehouse excitement. The EP as a whole bangs and bruises with massive kicks, crushing snares and glistening, razor sharp hats, but despite the abrasive percussion, melodies shine through, vocal hooks penetrate, and the atmosphere lifts far beyond the grinding monotony that maligns warehouse techno as an experience. 

Experimentation and originality sparks throughout this release. Talent, ladies and gentlemen…

While some of you might think of Planet Rhythm as one of those old labels from back in the day, it may not necessarily be the correct judgement. Not only is it a product of its past achievements, but it’s also pushing things forward in the present time, with Woo York being one of a few new artists emerging from the imprint’s recent catalogue. That said, 2014 starts with Ukrainian duo taking over Planet Rhythm headquarters as the label’s proprietors and getting in charge of all of its future development.

First out of press is the duo’s own EP highlighting their shift towards brand new, hardware-driven studio setup. From abstract TB-303-ish structures of Acid Rain, through the building peaks of Analogue Swamp, a perfect example of stripping functional techno, to Come Closer’s uplifting trance-y melodies and the closing sequence of Strobe 1, this record is shaping up to be Woo York’s strongest release to date.

The infamous PLANET RHYTHM imprint is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary in 2014. 20, naturally is a landmark-age and shows the label’s ongoing persistence and hunger to catch the right beat. Over the years many sounds within the Techno genre have been showcased on this warm and respected home. Coincidentally, the label (now situated in Rotterdam) just got onto a new a new flock of producers making their way into the crates of respected DJ’s and like minded people wordwide.

The launch of PRRUKBLK001 truly represents a new chapter in the already substantial past of one of the most respected techno labels around. The label’s head honcho - who took over from Glenn Wilson more than a decade ago - has appointed Ukrainian up and comer ‘’Woo York’’ as one of the curators for the years to come. While of course, the label’s longtime artists will appear on the forthcoming efforts also, Woo York will freshen up the label’s image by searching for that typical PRRUK sound with a more 2014 approach.

PRRUKBLK001 is the perfect kick-off for the new series.

Woo York showcases his significant style on the opening track Acidic Uniformity which is as the title suspects a dance floor blast completely drenched with a soaring Acid line. The sophomore track ‘’Contact Point’’ also by Woo York, is a firmly produced dark track with a lot of drum variations and effects it effectively completes the A–Side before moving on to the somewhat more rough work by ‘’Claudio PRC & Ness’’ who cleverly open the B-Side with an uplifting anthem that’s laced up with a firm kick and some other -worldly pads. For the closing down of this 12’’ Claudio PRC & Ness go off-beat with staggering atmospheres for the dancefloor oriented ‘’Cogas’’.

Time for the second black label M_Rec Ltd 10”, a series of no-frills vinyl records used by Max_M to deliver dancefloor oriented tracks to djs and techno fans around the world.

On one side, Max_M delivers an irresistible joint that thanks to layers and layers of elements manages to surprise beginning to end. That high pitch bell sound, which is somehow becoming a trademark in Max_M’s productions, splits in multiple directions generating soulful melodies and grooves. A perfect track for peak time.

Fabrizio Lapiana’s cut is an introspective journey rich in modular-fueled melodies. Its mellow refrains pay tribute to ambient classics and trippy British electronica, while the drum programming sets the track into a techno context, groovy and forward driving.

<p>Our fourth Agility sampler is a reality and things are definitely strong with Paride Saraceni kicking things off with the tribal-infused &#8220;Balearic&#8221;. Hollen beefs things up and is up next with locomotive grooves and cavernous effects, while Yado Atiz is up next to switch things up and inject some house vibes with his rubber-band bass and subtle chords. Nino Bua dubs things out and offers some mangled vocal action, and Sunrose together with Riccardo Sabatini pull back the gears just a bit and add some classy, haunting melodies.</p>

Sound Associates are late 90s UK producers Ben Tisdall and Daz Saund. With a long string of releases on labels like Music Man, Tortured, Missile and more, the pair defined a funky, frenetic tribal Techno sound. 

Their raw and challenging sonics, with compressed low ends and crisp highs no doubt contributed to the benchmarks for Techno today. Perhaps some of the unsung heroes of the pioneering UK scene, Sound Associates have left a permanent stamp on the shape of club music without compromise.

Following on from his Edits of DJ Hyperactive, JPLS and Mikael Jonasson, Len Faki now takes on original Sound Associates material in two burning new interpretations. 

Both 'Jacknife' and 'Boombox' blend the jacking, floor-burning funk of the original S.A cuts, with Faki's unmistakable attention to detail, and deadly-high production values. Finely tuned, yet raw and unrelenting, they are a perfect addition to Figure's current run of releases, setting new and higher standards for underground Techno in 2014.

Responsible for organizing the Moments event series throughout Berlin, I/Y is releasing an EP celebrating their collaboration with all the artists who performed and adhered to the Moment’s concept in the last few years. Releasing music from everyone was impossible, but the 4 tracks produced by Voiski, Blind Observatory, Schloss Mirabell, and I/Y give a solid idea of what Moments is about.

The first single to be taken from Slam’s truly astounding upcoming album ‘Reverse Proceed’ sees the hypnotic Pattern A3 alongside some of Techno’s biggest and brightest new stars adding their own versions also.

Slam have chosen one of the major standout tracks from Reverse Proceed to set the tone prior to the album’s full release in late October. With the album built around the concept of varying sequences, it’s fitting that the first single be given such an apt name. Taken directly form the Cirklon sequencer pattern that helped design the track Pattern A3 features heavily modulating synths that seems to have a fully organic life of their own set against the typical backdrop of 909 drums. 

Following on from Slam’s original, Soma have enlisted the help of 3 of the label’s favourite contemporary Techno artists. Argentina’s Jonas Kopp is first up on remix duties and deliver an absolute pile-driver of a remix with his signature thudding drums and machine-gun like percussion firing rapidly against subtle and stripped synth elements.
 
Swedish based Bleak is a very welcome addition to this package as he offers his own ‘Modular Interpretation’. Heavy sub bass and intelligent drum work outs combine with yet more subtle hints of the original’s synth elements to give a more deep and introspective version. 

Rounding off the EP is latest Soma artist Charles Fenckler. The young French artist is making waves in Techno at the moment and has certainly delivered on this project, giving his version a much more minimalistic, stripped and ends up with a solid dance floor burner.

Foremost international techno outlet Drumcode is delighted to announce the release of its next full-length album, ‘Satellite’, by enduring Italian techno talent Sam Paganini.

Though he has been active since the mid nineties, recent years have been hugely successful for Sam, with searing techno EPs coming on revered labels such as Riche Hawtin’s Plus8, Sven Vath’s Cocoon and of course, Adam Beyer’s Drumcode. In his time he has been responsible for underground hits like ‘Zoe’, ‘Polyester’ and ‘Fire In My Arms’, all of which demonstrate his dynamic understanding of sexy, dark and hypnotic techno grooves and at the same time have earned him plenty of great Beatport chart positions as well as respect from the best in the game.

Incredibly, ‘Satellite’ is Sam’s first full-length album. Informed by his DJ gigs at legendary places like Berghain in Berlin and Cielo in New York, the album starts with a dystopian bit of sonic scene setting, as if a space ship is charging up ready to take off.

From there it’s a case of getting straight down to business. ‘Another Chance’ is a spacey bit of cantering techno and ‘White’ is rooted in devastating kick drums and is riddled with serrated synth lines that build lots of great techno pressure. ‘Down’ is an undulating bit of funky techno complete with choice vocal flourishes and tracks like ‘Lotus’ are prime offerings from the deeper end of the scale.

No two tracks sound the same on Satellite: Sam is always teasing out a new bit of texture, nailing a slightly different vibe or exploring different amounts of light and dark throughout the course of this most excellent album. This is evidenced by diverse cuts like ‘Dusty’, ‘Toxic’ and ‘Rave’.

Despite ‘Satellite’ being Sam’s debut album, it showcases his seductive style in all its glory across 12 fantastic tracks that will leave you begging for more.

Jel Ford kicks off his return EP with two tracks of clean big room techno. The title track ‘Backyard’ is a moody affair with a low drone throughout that is complimented with layered synth stabs. Using reverb to create atmosphere within the track it subtly breaks down before a vocal hook transcends the track to deliver a killer blow. ‘Meeting of Minds’ is dubbier and uses a tripped out synth to add rhythm whilst working alongside a synth pattern to keep the track chugging along. The slow evolving pads add texture and keep the track nicely filled out whilst this timeless classic keeps on giving.

Alan Fitzpatrick is back with a three-track EP that encapsulates what Alan’s Drumcode sound is all about. Hard-hitting drums that fire down onto the dance floor like cannon balls. Check! Intense key patterns that are as twisted as they are uplifting. Check! Beautiful melodies that seamlessly interlock with each element. Check! Big-sounding, infectious grooves and killer hooks generously sprinkled with the infamous Fitzpatrick magic over the top. CHECK! In short, this EP is everything we have come to expect from Alan over his long history with Drumcode (this is his 10th EP as a solo artist!), but still his sound remains fresh and super-charged for 2014.

Bari-based DJ/Producer Kaiser made his career debut on Etruria Beat back in 2013 with his track "Conversation", part of the Bud Sampler (Part 1). Today he presents his first full release for Etruria, "Medusa”. 

The two originals are lead by "Save the Chord", named after the presence of some overlapping dub-chords which intersect each other to create a melody on which a well balanced groove grows. Title track "Medusa" leads with an aggressive and imposing rhythm. Perfect for the most powerful of dancefloors! 

In addition, two remixes from highly respected artists of the European techno scene. DJ Emerson , Microfon Rec. owner and CLR artist, infects "Save the Chord" with his typical sound, coming up with a powerful kick and impetuous groove. Relentless. 

Finally Matthias Fridell supplies a dark-and-mean rework with scything organ pulses that deliver a Detroit touch.

After just over a year of strictly remixes, Egbert returns with his first EP after his critically acclaimed album ‘Warm’. ‘Shake’ is a dancefloor EP with three unforgivingly powerful originals.

The release date, Jan 16th, also sees Egbert performing a 6 hour live set together with Secret Cinema @ Melkweg, AMsterdam.

2014 Was a year with many highs for Egbert. With a whopping 4 gigs at Awakenings including both days of the festival, rocking the Cave at Timewarp NL before Sven Väth, Electric Brixton in London, Flex Club Vienna, Sziget Festival and loads more amazing gigs with thousands of people going mental to his live act. 

For 2015 there are a string of strong EP’s lined up kicking off with ‘Shake’ on Gem Records. As Egbert spends most of his time playing live sets with 100% Egbert tracks around the globe, he knows exactly which ones pack the most punch. Label boss Secret Cinema who plays epic sets together with Egbert regularly, sat down and selected three of those tracks for this EP.

The record kicks off with ‘Dik Geluid’ which translates into ‘phat sound’. A stripped down repetitive  techno bomb with a hard kick and a throbbing bass effect as its main elements accompanied by spacey noises and lo-fi vocal samples that funk and echo over the top. Next up is ‘Shake’ which revolves around a bassline on every 16th note triplet that swings over the beat in a way that gives the track loads of energy and danceability. Filters are opened and decays lengthened until the bassline growls and roars with energy building up and up.   Finally there is ‘Korrelig’ which is probably one of the darkest tracks from Egbert’s sets. With scary horror movie vocals, huge delays, and a main noise that sounds evil to its core this is one bad-ass cut…
