Coming Back Home

buddy did not like rock, but his influences are notorious in the best and most famous rock drummers who admired him and this would be his first rock, visit his magnificent technique and music on you tube, of course I'm working on more tracks with him.      -Buddy Rich began playing drums in the world of vaudeville as "Traps, the Drum Wonder" when he was only 4 years old; he was completely self-taught and his initial training was carried out through his performances in vaudeville, alternating his facet of musician with that of dancer and singer.

Around 1938 he discovered jazz and played in Joe Marsala's group, from which he left to join the Bunny Berigan orchestra. During 1939 he played with Artie Shaw (at a time when his orchestra was the most popular), and then from 1939 to 1945 (with a hiatus for military service) with Tommy Dorsey, on a historic stage. The prestigious Slingerland battery factory released a series of its famous "Radio King" box, with Rich's signature.

Rich formed a bop orchestra during 1945-1947 (which was not very successful), toured with Jazz at the Philharmonic, recorded with countless 1950s stars for Verve (including Charlie Parker, Lester Young, Art Tatum and Lionel Hampton), and worked with Les Brown, Charlie Ventura, Tommy Dorsey (1954-1955) and Harry James (between 1953-1966, without interruption). A heart attack in 1959 forced him to rest; he returned as a vocalist, although without forgetting the drums.

In 1966, Buddy Rich formed a big band that would be his main occupation for the last twenty years of his life. His heart began to give him trouble again in 1983, but it was impossible for him to give up music until his death from a heart attack in 1987. His remains are at Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles California.

Like most people, I have heard this song many times, read the poem.
 But now I understand the depth of this poem, so sore and fragile. 
Thank you from heart Debra and Phil,  two wonderful musicians. A JOY.

If you need one poem for regrets in your life, then it must be this poem. 

Down by the Salley Gardens was written by W B Yeats (1889), who is generally known as one of Ireland’s greatest poets.

    Down by the salley gardens my love and I did meet;
    She passed the salley gardens with little snow-white feet.
    She bid me take love easy, as the leaves grow on the tree;
    But I, being young and foolish, with her would not agree.

    In a field by the river my love and I did stand,
    And on my leaning shoulder she laid her snow-white hand.
    She bid me take life easy, as the grass grows on the weirs;
    But I was young and foolish, and now am full of tears.

 Yeats published the poem in his collection, The Wanderings of Oisin and Other Poems in 1889. 
In a note on the poem, he said that he was trying to reconstruct an old song he had heard being sung by a woman in the village of Ballisodare in Sligo.

Down by the Salley Gardens was written as a poem and remained that way until 1909 when Herbert Hughes set it to music using the old Irish melody, The Maids of Mourne Shore.

Mood Exhibit - Crystal Bird

A journey across the desert.  This takes place in a dream with hazy, dark colours.
The intro sets the scene.  A ritualistic voice is carried by the wind.
A slave escapes from pyramid construction and is pursued by men in chariots. The sun is beating and the air has a liquid quality. Sand is blowing across the plain. The synth lead has an alarm-like quality. The electro 16th notes that come in are a hot, glimmering mirage.
The bass synth is sneaky and searching. The soldiers are beating continuous war drums. A regular horn is being blown. More chasers appear as the snare drum crashes in.  
The escapee luckily grabs hold of a bird and slowly leaves the ground, narrowly avoiding a growling elephant. As the funk guitar comes in we soar through beautiful air, psychedelic colours passing by, going higher and higher until we’re nearly at the limits of our atmosphere. The gods speak to us through another dimension in an indecipherable language.  They sound malevolent and seem to be sending a warning to turn back. We continue to climb further until reaching our biggest peak.
Dark storm clouds appear and slowly we descend. The new acid bass is the call of a large hippo. Alarm bells ring and we feel terror as the pharaohs have caught us up and are waiting below. The chief villain lets out a booming, evil laugh. 
Once on the ground mayhem ensues as we do our best to fight the soldiers off. But they are too numerous to handle and soon we are torn limb from limb in frenzy. The voice of Werner Herzog comes in as if this is one of his films that he’s commenting on. 
The Pharaohs party in macabre celebration.  Our soul leaves the body and rises up as the group sets back off home.

Another blast from the past and journey through time and bands this is a seven piece rap rock band called Faith in fools from Wigan here in the UK and this is an original rap rock track called Rapish and was recorded at Jarraf studios in Wigan by John Kettle! Hope you enjoy the vibe! Peace

Here’s a strange one. It was made as an assignment for a continuing education class such as I must periodically take to maintain my professional license, a license which has little to nothing to do with music. The radical A/B/A form of the piece as well as its brevity resulted from the nature of the assignment. What the hell any of this has got to do with the Tin Man also relates to the specifics of the class, and I won’t bore you with those. But making the music certainly made the class more fun than it might otherwise have been!
