Hey Shambhala friends! I wanted to take a quick moment to thank everyone who made this happen. To all of you on the dancefloor or tuning in at home, to my team behind this project and mostly to Team Fractal and Rich-E-Rich for the amazing opportunity to open such a stage. Extra thanks to Inspire and Mc Equality for joining me on stage. What a rush! 2017 was a special year for many reasons.  One of my best friends Jon proposed to his girlfriend April up on stage at the end.  They fell in love in the Fractal many years ago. I’m blessed to be a part of that magic moment.  Huge congratulations to Mark and his wife Stephanie for tying the knot during the beginning part of the set on the dance floor. I wish you all the best in the future. Paris based producer & DJ Petit Piment supplies a rip-roaring journey through the diverse world of Baile Funk, reconnecting with her lusophone influences from Angola and Brazil. Having spent her teenage years in Luanda, where she started collecting her first 'Funk das antigas' CD Compilations, with classics from Furacão 2000, Bonde do Tigrão, MC Carol, Tati Quebra Barraco… she’s in a perfect position to showcase it’s myriad styles, from Funk Carioca, Funk Paulista, 150 BPM Funk, all laced with her own heavyweight remixes and productions. 

For those who would like to dig deeper, she recommends reading 'O Mundo Funk Carioca' by Hermano Vianna for an in depth history of the genre, and the first Bailes in the Rio suburbs of the 80's. For visual stimulation, she points towards the series ‘Sintonia' on Netflix, directed by Kondzilla and featuring MC JottaPê and an insight into the daily life of young people living in the peripheries of São Paulo.

@cassius-select is a rhythm master. His grooves twist and turn you inside out and contort themselves into bold new forms. Drawing on the weight of bass music and the skip of garage, he has landed on labels like Matthew Herbert’s Accidental JNR and Banoffee Pies over the last few years. The Canadian - who is also one half of SUMAC Sound System - is now based in Hong Kong and continues to serve up killer club tracks with eerie vocal sounds and alien sound designs that make each and every production standout. 

His mix for us is just as unique. It starts off by skating on low riding skeletal rhythms, bumping on stripped back bass and drawing you in with a rich array of vocal, percussive and synth details. Just as you think it’s all set to explode, the dexterous DJ draws back to a murky world of bass and dub then rebuilds with a more high pressure sound before ending on some blissed out r&b. It’s dark, sweet and thoroughly seductive.
