Yu Yu is a tiny box room in CDMX. Since its opening in 2017, it’s been the home of electronic music in Mexico, welcoming everyone from Darwin to dBridge. In addition to the club, there’s also Yu Yu Record Store, a cosy vinyl stockist that champions the same flavours as its adjoining venue. 

Nico shared a percussive techno mix with us to represent the sound of Yu Yu.

A respected selector who has dropped mixtapes for the likes of Trilogy Tapes, Future Times, Ominira and most recently Extro, he’s supplied us with a vinyl-only tapestry of field recordings and religious/meditation records, going through to dub techno, acid, jungle and electro. Our Streaming From Isolation series is now raising donations directly for Black Lives Matter-affiliated causes. Donations to this stream go to NAACP Legal Defence, a US civil rights organisation that fights for racial justice through litigation, advocacy, & public education.

As part of Streaming From Isolation series, @Ballantines has committed a fund in the form of 20 grants to be distributed to community-driven collectives around the world. These grants will be given to each collective to distribute as they feel best to support under threat artists and those most in need within their immediate community. This support is critical over the coming months whilst COVID-19 restrictions are in place and impacting many artists’ ability to do what they love and to make a living. Weekly takeover days of Boiler Room’s channels will feature performances and sets programmed by these collectives from isolation. Broadcast to the world from artists’ homes and private spaces, these transmissions are a way to stay connected while apart.
