Tune in for a special mix featuring songs that he discovered and fell in love with while traveling or living abroad, revisiting some of his own memories of travel and discovery through music:

"The songs in this mix remind me of specific places and contexts where I first heard them, or where I fell in love with them. The opening track, for example, brings back a vivid memory of driving through the night from Amsterdam to Paris while on tour, on the day of the Brussels airport terrorist attack in 2016. I remember feeling very far away from home, chaotic, and strange. AAMAR’s track “Home” was the perfect calming and introspective piece of music for that surreal moment in time. As we slowly head into the post-pandemic world where traveling, and touring if you’re a musician, is once again considered a normal thing to do, I thought I’d revisit some of my own memories of travel and discovery through music. It is also a fitting theme for my upcoming new album as Arms and Sleepers, which is titled “former kingdoms” and drops on May 10. The record was written exactly 25 years after I first immigrated to the US and is an attempt to memorialize that ultimate journey in my life which changed me forever. "When I get asked to do mixes I often take that as an opportunity to put together a selection of my favourite pieces from a specific era, genre or composer. In this case I compiled a number of my favourite Japanese electronic tracks as I have been listening to a lot of that stuff for the past year or so."

Throughout the last decade Ulrich Schnauss has produced three albums which perfectly captured his vision of taking the 90's 'Shoegaze' aesthetic - very uncool at the time as we'll discuss below - and placing it into an electronic context. With the new album 'A Long Way To Fall' Ulrich felt the need to change and explore new avenues. And it's another beauty.

On the 3rd July, German born musician and producer Ulrich Schnauss will play an extra special live A/V show at Electrowerkz. We decided that this was the perfect time to have him create his Ransom Note Mix and we caught up with him to find out a bit more about his background, his mix and his general thought on music;

Sounds especially curated for your weekend! This week we have a hypnotic mix from Kenton Slash Demon. Silas Moldenhawer and Jonas Kenton, both children of the early 80´s, grew up alongside each other in the tiny big city of Copenhagen. In their teenage years they discovered electronic music and this led them to start spinning records and producing tracks together. Years later they met two other talented musicians and formed Danish indie-electro outfit, When Saints Go Machine, but still kept building Kenton Slash Demon as a separate project. Now with their imprint WAA Industry, Kenton Slash Demon deliver a kaleidoscope of moods and styles with distinctive organic and futuristic sounds on their Recreation Mix for KALTBLUT Magazine.

Kenton Slash Demon Recreation Mix for KALTBLUT Magazine

In Hour 2 we hand over to contemporary pianist James Heather celebrating the release of his debut ‘Modulations: EP 1’ on June 9th via Ahead Of Our Time. James Heather is one of the new school set of ‘post classical’ artists flourishing in the wake of the long, steady but recently accelerated success of figureheads like, recent guest Ben Lukas Boyson, Max Richter and Jóhann Johannsson. ‘EP 1’ will be followed by an album in the summer of 2017  and he told us;
"This mix was put together to show some influences beyond my debut solo piano EP “Modulations: EP1”. The tracks, to my ears, have a “modern classical” feel to it, taking sound somewhere new. I have put a few piano interludes of mine in, with more effects than usual. Look out for some lovely new music from Sufjan Stevens too. Enjoy!”
