mono no aware (もののあわれ) is the first compilation to be released on PAN, collating unreleased ambient tracks from both new and existing PAN artists.

Featuring Jeff Witscher, Helm, TCF, Yves Tumor, M.E.S.H., Pan Daijing, HVAD, Kareem Lotfy, ADR, Mya Gomez, Sky H1, James K, Oli XL, Bill Kouligas, Flora Yin-Wong, Malibu, and AYYA, the compilation moves through more traditional notions of what is called ’ambient’, to incorporating wider variations that fall under the term.

“Mono no aware”, ‘the pathos of things’, also translates as “an empathy toward things", or "a sensitivity to ephemera”. A term for the awareness of impermanence, or the transience of things. A meditation on mortality and life's transience, ephemerality heightens the appreciation of beauty and sensitivity to their passing. In investigating the passing of time, the boundaries between memory and hallucination become blurred; between fiction and reality. The movement of time transforms into an eternal present.

The album is mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at D&M, featuring photography by Molly Matalon and design by Bill Kouligas. A limited version of 100 copies will be released as a special art edition in collaboration with Mount Analog for the LA Art Book Fair 2017, before going on general release.

Gobby has been working away since the New Hat EP.  With his latest Giveitaway installment Above Ground, Gobby's burrowed into a longer format before his next UNO 12".
The upward direction focuses on a brighter side of noise and hip hop inspirations, while keeping equally twisted and cartoony. The melodies are different, particularly Theme For Money Go Deli (a near four minute digital orchestra), but remain based in the rhythms and drums he's been playing in the daylight.

Gobby - Who Said It!?

In "The Acquisition of Language & The Language of Acquisition", artist-poet Luzie Meyer traces the property of language to both confine and liberate, and the verbal means of expression available to us in times of digital media and algorithms. With the faculty of being able to express oneself through these forms (templates) comes the problem of false equivalence or commensurability: Unlike the spider that mechanically reproduces the same pattern again and again, The Acquisition of Language & The Language of Acquisition explores the gaps and interstices in which such tools and formats might possibly be used for different and poetic ends.

The long poem reads as a succession of “exercises” (chapters) and addresses the intricate entanglement between the individual and the universal, or the authentic and the socially constructed. Blending sound (among which are zither pieces of her friend Magda Barthofer, or composition techniques borrowed from musique concrète) with writing techniques such as cut-up, Meyer investigates the psychology of language forms and formats. As the narrator of the poem finds themself looking for a different and individualized alphabet, the use of an all-too-familiar language of therapy and self-enhancement reveals it as yet again firmly merging with the logic of neoliberal value and exchange.

The spoken word is accompanied and interrupted by musical interludes. The musique concrète compositions are created with a drum rack of original percussion sounds recorded at home, as well as with a ready-made set of sounds from Ableton. Additionally, the piece includes sounds of a lapharp (zither), played by Magdalena Barthofer, which were recorded with Ableton with an effects pedal.

For the time being, the collective space of the physical Pogo bar is moved to the digital realm, with two new podcasts to be released on a monthly basis.
