London’s Jon K & Elle Andrews grip Samson A.K. for the first MAL mixtape - a cut ’n paste hour of screwed downbeats, grotty jazz, and ruder club thrust, mostly built from his own productions interspersed with skits, on a tip somewhere between classic Disengage x Blue Jam.

Samson A.K. has long worked behind the curtain of London club music. On ‘Tape 1’ MAL spotlight the breadth of his mutant steez, giving him carte blanche for a collaged self-portrait stitched together with samples and cruddy, free-handed edits that suite the tape format well.

Side A runs from dancehall and deconstructed grime into pockets of bong-huff jazz and MJB-like deep house, then backward thru the bush of ghosts, into worm-charming industrial techno tremors. The B-side follows thru with a slew of distended offbeats and lopsided rhythmic programming to run rings around latinate techno, blown-out grunge, and radioactive brownian slosh, before bringing it back to root in mutant dancehall - a key fascination (obsession?) he shares with MAL.

"I started in the clubs, and that's where my heart is." The British singer-songwriter and RA's newest cover star talks about her new album, BRAT, live from AVA London.

This week's Exchange is with Resident Advisor's latest cover star: Charli xcx. The British singer-songwriter has garnered a reputation as one of the most unpredictable and boundary-pushing pop artists of her generation, collaborating with contemporaries like A. G. Cook, Yaeji and the late SOPHIE. And she's now on the heels of her most recent album, BRAT, which came out in June and has already been lauded as one of the best albums of the year.

In this conversation recorded live at AVA London with journalist Chal Ravens, Charli xcx dives into the making of the album. She calls it a club record—that, she says, is "where her heart is." After posting songs on MySpace around 2008, she was asked to DJ at warehouse parties when she was still in her teens. She felt alive in that space, she remembers, doing crazy, embarrassing things.

Now in a different chapter of her life and career, she contemplates her desire to make challenging music that still appeals to a broad audience. It's a pendulum that swings radically in both ways, and she finds herself reinventing herself within the pop space and navigating that tension again and again. Listen to the episode in full.

Bardzo się cieszę z tego nagrania. W sumie to miałem nagrać nową tak zwaną płytę ale ten live jest na tyle spoko, że puszczam to w takiej formie.

FOQL, aka Justyna Banaszczyk, returns to Pointless Geometry with a new album after 10 years. It was her record that opened the label’s catalog, and now, symbolically, we close a decade and open a new one with her release. Bug Poems leans towards sound poetry, exploring the voice, touching on strange emotions—the fear of the alien-insect, but also the fascination with it. It is an attempt to capture a feeling.

The new album by FOQL is the result of months of research exploring poetry, pop culture, philosophy, and entomology in search of a new sonic and poetic language. Bug Poems moves between sound art and spoken word, weaving together strange emotions, fear of the unknown, and intimate reflection.

It’s an audial poetry, where the voice becomes both instrument and narrative, and where insects turn into metaphors for our inner worlds.
