About Rig Thrall: 
"Rig Thrall is one of those artists with strong character and style, plus an eclectic and varied selection combined to solid influences. A racy techno style combining planar and tribal music but also progressive trance, breaks and marked tones from the 80s-90s.

He co-created various projects during his young life in this industry, such as Rakya (label & collective) in Paris (soundcloud.com/rakya-records) or OQULT collective in Montreal (https: / /www.facebook.com/oqultmtl) for the most recent.

Also producer, he released two EPs, including one on his own label, and several collaborations on movie or advertising soundtracks. He is currently working on new projects which should see the daylight soon. Case to follow."

Surface 10 A Stray Ending DiN77

Surface 10 is the moniker of Californian electronic musician Dean De Benedictis. He has previously released albums on the DiN label with In Vitro Tide (DiN8) & Surface Tensions (DiN24). Finishing a hiatus of over a decade, which saw him pursuing several film projects, he returns to DiN with a stunningly original new album, “A Stray Ending” (DiN77).

The DiN label has always actively encouraged the blurring of genre boundaries and with this new opus Dean has certainly done that with influences as far flung as Electronica, Ambient, IDM, Berlin School, Glitch, Progressive Jazz Fusion, World and Cinematic music. Such a heady mixture is immediately apparent on the opener “Neverheart” with its achingly beautiful and haunting chordal themes overlaid with an intertwining tapestry of percussion and glitched out effects. The album rises and falls through layers of dazzling sound design and compositional complexity to reach its apex with the freak-out intensity of “Azz”. The following track “Dorothy Spearhead” is perhaps the most concise piece on show here, with its vocal melodic hook and danceable drum groove. This leads into the spectacular “Non Fi” which propels the listener on an epic tour de force of electronic invention before the album closes with the melancholic shimmering beauty of “Universal Winter (Rework)”.

This new album from Surface 10 is almost beyond categorisation and is full of so many inventive and detailed sonic and musical elements that it will give the listener something new to focus in on each and every listen. Another truly unique addition to the DiN catalogue.

Darren Harper (b.1970) is an experimental/ambient sound artist residing high within the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
Drawing from both electronic and acoustic sources, his compositional output is based entirely on experimentation and improvisation, with a strong emphasis on minimalism, and often reflects a desire for a greater understanding of nature and self, and the relationship therein…

Patch featuring two Cwejman VCO-6’s,  VCO A’s PWM SAW output is routed into a MMF-1s. The MMF-1s is in 12db lowpass mode, saturation knob on 4, compression ration 3:1.  The pulse output of VCO B is routed to the sync input of VCO A.  One output of a D-LFO is the functioning as master clock, the other output (synced) is modulating the PWM Saw of VCO A. 

A Turning Machine is locked into a 16 note pattern, the pitch CV goes via a uScale to both VCO’s. The D-LFO is routed through a MI Branches and providing clock for an ADSR-VC2. The outputs of the ADSR are creating random accents on the MMF-1s via the VC1 and VCA/mix inputs. 

I wiggle the octaves on VCO B and thereby changing the sync frequency of VCO1. The chiming sections are made with the higher octaves on VCO B.  I also wiggle the Saw pulse width on VCO A. This moves the sound from almost brassy to chorus like. 

At some points I drop in a low repeating bass note from a BLD. The BLD is triggered by one of the clock outputs of the Turning Machine. 

Tracked in one take directly to ProTools, cut to make it less boring, and bit of reverb (Adaptiverb)  and limiting (Ozone) added.
