Rolando R Rocha: Rolando grew up in south west Detroit, a Hispanic district, he was heavily influenced by his cultural Latin rhythms and percussion. Inspired from an early age by his musician father, he pursued his own interest in music and became well known and respected within the community. It was later when he heard Jeff Mills in 1985 as "The Wizard" that he discovered the innovative sounds of Techno. Through a mutual friend he was introduced to Mike Banks and joined Underground Resistance in 1994.
In 1999 'Jaguar' although not Rolando's first release on UR turned perceptions of Techno on their head, breaking into other genres of dance music and becoming a classic in the boxes of DJs such as Danny Tenaglia DJ, Erick  Morillo, Paul Oakenfold, and Gilles Peterson. The track has a long legacy of reworking and lives on fifteen years later inspiring audiences from all genres.
As of November 2004, Rolando left both Underground Resistance and his Los Hermanos project behind.
2014 Rolando has launched his own label R3 ( Roland Rocha Records) and will exclusively release his own music on his label.
Rolando now a Dj for almost thirty years continues to work internationally as a Dj and continues to hold a residency at the notorious and enigmatic Berlin club Berghain.

DifferentSound invites Rolando / Podcast #072

Born and raised in Morocco, Chami has been djing there before moving to Lyon, France and discovering his passion for techno. Now based in Berlin, where he has definitely become a cornerstone of the Stützpunkt Crew and fully integrated Berlin local underground scene.

Chami is one of those artists that truly reflects the spirit of techno, no superficial exterior surface of these days but only focusing on the pure art form itself. This mindset allows him to gained the trust of master such as Freddy K, evident during their spontaneous after hours b2b at Suicide Club in recent times, and also his debut with OPH at the legendary Berghain this month.

With his strong and determined vinyl only sets Chami is able to showcase his talent on the decks and demonstrate his deep knowledge for this very technical art. Lock in for a clean, rhythmic and hard-hitting hour of no bullshit techno.

39th episode of Cartel Podcast with OPH

OPH is one to keep an eye on. Vinyl enthusiast, this french DJ started his musical journey by writing reviews about the electronic scene of his hometown, Lyon. After moving to Berlin in 2014, he quickly joined the Stützpunkt collective as a resident, opening him doors to clubs like Arena, Grießmühle or ://about blank.

His sets are reflecting his large and diverse musical culture and are shaped to musically recreate a palette of emotions felt on the dancefloor. Forever in search of new sounds to play with, he sees mixing as a form of plastic art, combining different textures and grooves to induce a state of introspection.

On the side, he shares the booth with Chami, his close friend and music half. Together they run a Face 2 Face act, a special format that got them a successful gig in Berghain recently. In combination with a new residency in the Sinxergy family, you can expect more to come from OPH in the near future.

Diffuse Reality is a label with international presence from Europe to South America, and with over a decade of releases now in tow, has featured artists such as Electric Indigo, Terence Fixmer, Stanislav Tolkachev, Sunil Sharpe, and Arnaud Le Texier.

Matrixxman and Setaoc Mass are the guests this week for the return of Train Wrecks. Charlie Duff aka Matrixxman recently moved to Berlin after a 10 year stint in San Francisco. In recent years, he catapulted to towards the top of techno ladder with a ton of singles and an album on Ghostly. He recently co-produced the forthcoming Depeche Mode album while simultaneously working on his latest trilogy for Dekmantel.

Sam Coates aka Setaoc Mass is another Berlin-based DJ and producer who has found success in recent years on Spencer Parker’s Work Them Records and his own SK_Eleven imprint. Recently, Sam has become a mainstay of Len Faki’s record label Figure, and as Sam explains on the podcast, that’s just the beginning!
