'The first release of 2023 on Damon Jee’s imprint Dust & Blood comes by French duo Kimshies and once again, the guys show what they can do best, explosive indie dance and dark disco for the dancefloor.

Long-time friends and collaborators Peo Watson and Mika Frojman have returned with the latest in a string of releases following their reunion in 2018. After a twelve-year break, the French duo decided to team up again when their 2004 undercover vinyl only tune was brought back into the limelight during one of Solomun’s sets. Since their rebirth, they’ve more than made up for lost time with powerful releases on exclusive labels such as Aeon, Duro and Ombra. Their new offering ‘Blue Planet’ is an intricate and futuristic five-tracker that showcases their unique technical talent and eclectic influences.

The sci-fi-inspired title track invites the listener to dive in head first, setting the tone with its ebb and flow of intricately wrought layers. Urgent stabs combine with a relentless beat and distorted, echoing whispers in a surreal fever dream.

‘Cortex Five Senses’ then brings a retro touch with its driving synth line and unpredictable sound, building up into an explosion of tension as seductive yet almost pleading vocals bleed into each other in a desperate dialogue.

It’s followed by ‘Trapped’ (featuring Erick Faulkner), an intense track that evokes a feeling of unrest and panic with ominous lyrics backed by an aggressive rhythm and urgent sirens.

The electric and evocative ‘Cowboys Don’t Cry’ switches up the vibe with hypnotic riffs straight out of a classic Western movie and a heady, electrifying bassline that runs throughout, perfectly underlining the enigmatic female vocals.

The release wraps up with ‘Coming Out’, an eerie stomper of a track that takes the listener into unfamiliar territory, with distant, almost robotic voices seeping through looming alien sounds and a hard beat.
This unpredictable EP never releases its grip, masterfully building tension from the get-go to leave you breathless and wanting more. Set to be released on April 7th via Damon Jee’s uncompromising and cosmic Dust & Blood imprint.'

The product of a songwriting duo in the rich tradition of Tiga/Hulkkonen and Tiga/McCartney, “Stay Cool" marks a return of sorts to the classic Tiga sound, which is now the modern Tiga & Clarian sound. The kinda-underground acid techno grooves and magnanimously biting lyrics paint a picture so contemporary it threatens to make you live in the moment for the rest of your life.

What began organically with Clarian contributing material and production to Tiga’s 2016 No Fantasy Required LP has evolved into a contractually-mandated partnership. Having already worked with the likes of Jamie Principle, Felix Da Housecat and Guy Gerber, the Montreal-born musician is no stranger to “the hot collab," but was still taken aback by the rigorously enforced freedom he enjoyed during the "Stay Cool” sessions. “Tiga will be the first to tell you he has no ego in the studio, and in my experience that is the absolute truth,” says Clarian. “Every idea I have, every part I write, we split the credit right down the middle.”

“Stay Cool” is a real-time disintegration of the boundaries between Tiga’s public passion for music and his private obsession with digital entertainment currencies like Quarthonium Bronze and LavaBucks. “It occurred to me that what I could not stop myself from doing - typing 'HOLD YOUR POSITION' over and over in my crypto group chat - also served as an apt illustration of my heroic lifelong wrestling match with the idea of cool. And this epiphany has opened up my experience into a 360-degree panorama of creative possibility,” enthuses Tiga. “Soon, I'll be haggling over blueberries at the farmer’s market and Clarian will instantly turn in into the sound of the summer, whether you like it or you love it."

"You’re So Special” emerged from the songwriting team sitting around the drum machine in shirtsleeves with a pot of piping-hot coffee, waiting for piping-hot inspiration to strike. The lyrics ably grapple with the now, openly wondering about the direction of bleeding-edge compassion. “You see it everywhere, from airport bookstores stocked with variations on The Art of Not Giving a Fuck to airline pilots taking time off to work on themselves mid-flight,” hectors Tiga, wagging his finger for needed emphasis. “I don’t pretend to have all the answers, but what I also don’t pretend to have is patience for those who pretend to do.”

Although French electronica has been inarguably cool since the rise of Air in the mid-'90s, Poni Hoax are likely the first band to fuse the sophistication of Gallic dance beats with solid rock & roll attitude (imagine if the Strokes really were as cool and debonair as they pretend to be) and a soupçon of the lyrical perversity and overall suavity last seen in French pop when Serge Gainsbourg was at the height of his powers. The four musicians in Poni Hoax met while studying at the Conservatoire Nationale de Musique in Paris; upon leaving school, keyboardist Laurent Bardainne, guitarist Nicolas Villebrin, bassist Arnaud Roulin, and drummer Vincent Taeger continued experimental rehearsals on their own time while working as studio and tour band musicians. A meeting between Bardainne and the stylish Franco-Cambodian singer Nicolas Ker in a local bar brought the band a charismatic frontman in the camp-cool mode of early Bryan Ferry; the patronage of popular dance producer and remixer Jakim Bouaziz brought the band to the influential electronic indie Tigersushi Records. Poni Hoax's debut EP, Budapest, was released in the fall of 2005. Their self-titled debut album, with a properly faux-decadent cover photo of a nude young girl gazing pensively at, of all things, a live owl, was released in the summer of 2006, with a remix EP following the next year.
