PRAY FOR AN EXIT II

Howlite dips into luscious and left-field pop with ‘INFANCY’, from their upcoming EP 'Not Here'.

Elegant vocals blend against a backdrop of swirling samples, propulsive guitars and trip-hop inspired beats. Alison Thom soars above the instrumental backdrop once again, further showcasing her beguiling vocals, easily captivating the listener in the same vein as Hannah Reid (London Grammar) and Elena Tonra (Daughter).

Infancy offers further insight into the bands forthcoming EP, ‘Not Here’, and builds on the ethereal, indie foundations of previous singles ‘Reducer’ and ‘Olympia’ - tracks that garnered praise around the country, and growing interest through Europe. Thom’s lyrical prowess, set against a backdrop of dark pop instrumentation, showcases a band on the precipice of something great, poised with the confidence and curiosity to explore otherworldly beauty.

Nach ihrer Debüt-EP “Ozean” vom Herbst 2018 lassen Voodoo Beach mit “Desolat” eine neue Single folgen, die die Band in einer neuen Stimmung zeigt. Sie sind immer noch ganz ihrem eigenen, düsteren Psychedelic Rock verpflichtet, der einerseits tief in den 1970s verwurzelt und andererseits dezidiert modern ist. Doch stellen sie der Orientierungslosigkeit und Sehnsucht, der Manie und dem Wahn, eine neue Direktheit und ein geradezu gutgelauntes Selbstbewusstsein an die Seite.

Natürlich erzählt „Desolat“ erst einmal von der Einsamkeit. Und wie scheiße es ist, wenn man sich verlassen fühlt. Zu singen „Es ist alles ganz genau so wie du’s sagst - ich bin desolat.“ ist eine Selbstvergewisserung. Ohne Selbstmitleid. Eine Erinnerung daran, bei sich zu bleiben. Sich nicht fremdbestimmen zu lassen - auch nicht im Schmerz. Und nicht auf das Gequatsche derer zu hören, die sich am Leid der anderen aufgeilen. 

Verita Vi (Gesang, Gitarre), Jon van Mono (Bass, Backing Vocals), Ignacy San (Gitarre) und Josephine O (Drums) erobern sich mit „Desolat“ einen neuen, sommerlichen Sound und eine Hymne auf die eigene Kaputtheit. Ihre für das Genre untypische stilistische Offenheit führt sie diesmal weit in den Pop, ohne ihre Wucht und Schwere zu verlieren. Sie sind damit so angreifbar wie nie zuvor. 

Voodoo Beach spielten Konzerte und Touren in Deutschland, Österreich, Tschechien und Polen mit u.a. Tess Parks, Odd Couple und The Underground Youth sowie diverse Festivals. Nach ersten Demos und Singles veröffentlichten sie im Herbst 2018 ihre Debüt-EP „Ozean“ bei Späti Palace.
