Marquisha Lawrence Scott, Ph.D became pregnant with her daughter at the height of the pandemic two months after she and her husband decided they were ready to expand their family of two. But after what she describes as an "easeful" pregnancy and being readmitted to the hospital a week after having her daughter due to postpartum preeclampsia, Marquisha faced a new challenge: postpartum depression and anxiety.

Lorena is a mother of three and experienced postpartum depression after the birth of all of her children, even with a fourteen year age gap between her middle child and her youngest. She shares the similarities and differences of the experiences then and now.

Postpartum Depression (PPD) can be a very difficult time in a new mom's life. For my practicum research for the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism, I've interviewed a group of mothers that have experienced postpartum depression to hear their first-person account of what that chapter in their motherhood journey was like. These stories have been collected and shared to help others who may be experiencing PPD feel less alone and also to give people who are unfamiliar with the condition a glimpse into an often unspoken reality.
