Variation on a phrase and two chords from ‘The Köln Concert – Part I’ (1975) by Keith Jarrett

“Subtle laughter may be heard from the audience at the very beginning of "Part I" in response to Jarrett's quoting of the melody of the signal bell which announces the beginning of an opera or concert to patrons at the Köln Opera House, the notes of which are G D C G A. Jarrett himself noted that while he does not remember doing it consciously, he credits it for putting the audience in a good mood that helped him through a difficult concert experience.”

Procedure:
A MIDI sequence was created with Elektron Octatrack,
which drives a piano track in Ableton.
The sequence was then broken down into four melodic lines.
The first line were transposed by +7 semintones
the second by +11 semitones
the third -13 semitones
the fourth line remains in the same pitch
then the harmony was extracted from each melodic line.
For each track, the ghost plays its part and sings as it pleases.
Next, for the sake of musicality, each ghost decides which notes to play and which to omit from its part.
During the performance the Time increase and the ensemble takes place
second take with the "singing ghost" track add

This composition is from the album Saudade.

The album was to have soundscapes by Robert Fripp (King Crimson), electric cello by Joan Jeanrenaud (Kronos Quartet), and spoken word by myself. In the end, I decided that the music said more without the spoken word, so I took my contributions off the album. However, Joan composed, in part, her cello to the poems I wrote, so the texts nonetheless remain in the compositions dissolved and woven in at a subliminal level.
