chasing the bend

Some of you may have noticed in the last four years that I have put up original songs - which I usually leave free for download - on this page. It's been some time since I've gone out of my way to polish a piece up, lyrics and all, but thinking about doing that again dries my throat right out; getting from point A to point hey-we-actually-have-a-song-here is one hell of a process and one I have not been able to confidently immerse myself in. But here I have some instrumental pieces that have collected in the dark corners of my laptop - things I would begin out of a small imagined phrase or guitar riff, a motif on my parents' piano on a Sunday afternoon. After some brooding, gestating (where I'm up still at 3 in the morning with rings around my eyes) the piece would end up as one of these eight.

With this release of demo tracks I'm also saying I'm moving forward. There are only so many of these things that I can accumulate, wondering if they're any good or worth working with. It becomes this never ending process of tinkering, listening (a week later), shelving, rediscovering, rinse, wash, repeat. After a time, there's only so much you can keep trying to do with one idea, and here's where I've let the music rest - let the doubting stop.

I've been caught up. Here's what that sounds like.

C'mon C'mon!

This song is part of a bigger project. I really like making sets like “The Couch King Sofa Barn” and “The Horror Host” but they take a long time to make and I don’t think SoundCloud loves the long song format. A number of us are almost finished with another song in this project. I am excited to hear how the whole thing turns out. Massive thanks to everyone presently involved and all my future collaborators in these crazy visions. I hope everyone is having fun on the cloud. I feel like this can be a very fun time for the SoundCloud community as we have all matured and know ourselves in relation to music better. 

This song got started when another rapper first asked me to collaborate with him. He sent me a beat, but I tend to want to focus on original music from our community so I asked Joerxworx if he wanted to work on a beat with only horns in a New Orleans marching funeral band style. Joerxworx agreed and provided me with massive horns to work with! The other rapper was no longer interested by now in working with me so I asked Jon Lock if he wanted to join in and fortunately he agreed, cause I love his funky soulful vocal stylings! Russell did an amazing job mixing and mastering my sloppy drums and the rest of the track to perfection. I was also very fortunate that Wou-Wou & the Wormling was willing to collaborate on art work for this track, fully completing the spirit of community collaboration!

This dynamic track is in a way a little wink to my 🚘 that, given its robustness would be able to get me through the galaxies , but also a good opportunity to explain the reasons for my absence in recent times...
I do not remember exactly the date because of the shock, but I think it was at the beginning of this month of July 2019 that this incredible event occured ...
I was riding quietly in my old 406, one evening, on a small mountain road in my area, under a star-spangled sky when one of these stars suddenly began to get bigger. In order to avoid the accident, I stopped on the edge of the deserted road at this late hour. As soon as I looked up at the sky, a blinding glow swept over me. 🛸 I do not remember anything else until a voice whispered in my 👂 these few words: "We will help you" ... 👽 
I still do not know how they guessed that our planet is suffering. Maybe I spoke in my forgotten dreams? Unless they have the power to read our thoughts? Where did they take me with my car? What happened between the beginning of this month of July and today?
Will they bring us wisdom and peace on our beautiful planet that is imploding? Those beings I do not know anything about and even less their origin seem to have only good intentions because, not only did they accompany me home but they also gave me back my car with which I intend to travel a few hundred years. thousands of extra kilometers! ;)

Cette piste dynamique est en quelque sorte un petit clin d'oeil à ma bagnole qui, compte tenu de sa robustesse serait bien en mesure de me faire traverser les galaxies,mais c'est aussi une bonne opportunité pour vous expliquer les raisons de mon absence de ces derniers temps...
Je ne me souviens plus exactement de la date à cause du choc, mais je crois que c'était au début de ce mois de juillet 2019 que cet incroyable évènement est survenu...
Je roulais tranquillement dans ma vieille 406, un soir, sur une petite route de montagne de ma région, sous un ciel maculé d'étoiles lorsqu'une de ces étoiles s'est soudainement mise à grossir à vue d'oeil. Afin d'éviter l'accident, je m'arrêtais sur le bord de la route déserte à cette heure tardive. A peine je levais le nez vers le ciel qu'une lueur aveuglante me submergeais. Je ne me souviens de rien d'autre jusqu'à ce qu'une voix me souffle à l'oreille ces quelques mots: "Nous allons vous aider"...
Je ne sais toujours pas comment ils ont deviné que notre planète est en souffrance. Peut-être ai-je parlé dans mes rêves oubliés? A moins qu'ils n'aient le pouvoir de lire dans nos pensées? Où m'ont-ils emmené avec ma voiture? Que s'est-il donc passé entre le début de ce mois de juillet et et aujourd'hui?
Sauront-ils nous apporter sagesse et paix sur notre belle planète entrain d'imploser? Ces êtres dont je ne connais rien semblent n'avoir que de bonnes intentions car, non seulement ils m'ont raccompagné à la maison mais ils m'ont aussi rendu ma voiture avec laquelle je compte bien parcourir quelques centaines de milliers de kilomètres supplémentaires! ;)

The music project "Present Paradox" by Dortmund-based David Kleinekottmann provides insights into the often opaque nature of the present. The result is a fusion of melancholic and danceable elements, expansive and intimate at the same time, diverse and yet familiar.
