Funk In The System Mixtape

Solid Steel in association with Serato (30th July) DK takes charge of hour 1 and straight in with two hot new tracks from Big Dada. New signing DELS with the excellent 'Shapeshift' (and a great video to match), followed by the grandaddy of UK hip hop, Roots Manuva with at track from his upcoming EP alongside Wrongtom. A nod to Melvin Bliss (RIP) and his well sampled track 'Synthetic substitution', before we up the pace with Flore and Total Science & S.P.Y. Chali 2na hits the button marked dubstep, plus more wobbles from Cakeboy and Toddla T, remixed by Benga. Big Daddy Kane and PE represent the old skool (and a taste of the second hour) and it sounds like Fred Wesley's 'Blow your head' inspired an African version by 'Rob' on the superb Afro-Beat Airways compilation. Mount Kimbie, L VIS 1990, Sepalcure and Bunny on Acid bring the first hour to a lush close.

Playing music on New Years Day is always one of my favourite sets of the year.  We've all put the old year to bed and come together to share in the coming years rich potential.  Over time, I've found that the sets that resonate are the ones that riff on classics, are rich with soul, that are just all the way down funky.  Comfort music.  Feel good music.  
 Accessible, but done right, hits for the heads as well.  I nabbed this recording from a set that I did not think was going to happen.  2020 was a rough year.  I hadn't performed since August as pandemic lockdowns had curtailed 99% of live music.  So I really wanted to catch the feels right.  Glad I captured this.  Hope you enjoy. There’s nothing ancient about Primitive’s sound or technique.  Pushing the DJ and rave lifestyle in the Pacific Northwest since 2000, supporting the music community by creating a slew of residencies, coordinating gigs for other DJs, promoting shows and developing the community through platforms like Party People Sound Solutions, Primitive Hustle, and PK Sound Victoria.  Strengthened through many collaborations, creating connections and culture; trailing a wake of blissed out revellers. All Primitive ever wanted was to rock a party and he is guaranteed to create a sweaty mess on the dance floor.  Primitive’s sound connects the dots between Techno, House, Breaks and Acid, while also dabbling in offshoots of Drum and Bass including Footwork, Juke, Half Time, and Jungle. A DJ’s DJ that can burn down any dance, Primitive sets are system flexing.
