Disco Breakin' Bump Summer 2021

Had a great time mixing this set at The Collective wine bar.  Getting excited for Social Grooves with DJ Dan and Colette and the classic vibe it is sure to embody- and Solomon Potashnik got me on the dig for that classic house sound.   It seems a bit weird to me, but my long playing mixes are doing way better than the hour long ones, so here ya go- 2 hours plus of absolute niceness.  This ones lush.  Enjoy!

I recorded this live on the Glo Patio on the first 30plus degree day of the summer.  The heat made this an epic patio jam and the peeps seemed to love the spacier sparklier deeper selection on offer here.  Really digging this one.  Hope you do too.  Bump it my friends!

Heat Seaker Summer 2022

This set was a dream.   My set started at 12am, as did my birthday. 
 I played after international legend, producer and label boss, Saeed Younan, who lit up the dance with a technical and creative deep jacking and tribal set.  Working with Footwork Entertainment has been nice.  We are seeing fantastic response to shows that we are 100% creatively behind.  Bringing in house music legends to headline long shows that start early, headliner for 2 hours starting at 10pm. and bringing in a diverse offering of our local talent, for 2 room parties running 7pm till 2am.  We are seeing broad support and plan on running with it.  Big thanks to Daniel James, who brought me on as partner in his project.  Thank you for your efforts and your trust.  But the people I really need to thank are the ones on the dance floor.   Your quest for release is what drives me.  Let's get higher together.  Elevate our minds, bodies and soul.

Triple XL Podcast- DJ Primitive 04/14/14

This one was tough to fit into a genre.  I just wanted to throw a bunch of different bass music styles into a daytime festival mix for my spot at Social Grooves on the "Drum and Bass" stage.   I threw some mixed bangers into a short list and got to work.  Flips from Drum and Bass and uptempo tings to House, then down to midtempo, moombah amapiano, then back up to house bangers then Booty Breaks for the finish.  Hope you dig it.

Keeping these rolling!  This is the last 45 minutes of a raucous post Rifflandia Sunday at Fiamo.  The place was packed.  Tables and chairs were being danced on.  Sundays at Fiamo are back- we've been fighting since the re open, and its amazing to be seeing the support.  And having a beautiful crowd to play to let's me play dope music.  Enjoy!

Lizard King Lounge #6 Fiamo 10.30.2023

This could be my favourite recorded set.  I've definately recorded heavier soundsystem flexers but this is more of my love letter to Disco and its progression into house.  This is the first 2.5 ish hours of a 3 hour club set- the "after party" for a Tight Hair live disco set.  When i saw the dance floor tight hair had I knew the crowd was up for it, they had the place packed and grooving.  Playing after a live disco band opened the door for me to play almost 2 hours of my favourite disco edits and proto house, before it was obvious the crowd wanted more- so I bumped it up to a housier vibe before tearing into some garage- which is where this mix ends.  I'm unbelievably grateful to the crowd who was with me the whole time in a tight, intimate environment, great sound and tons of friends.  This one is special to me.  Hope you enjoy!

This was my first attempt at a chill stage set at a rave or festival.  Big Thanks to Mat Rose and the team at Remember What!? for the opportunity.   I started out with deep house (mixing in to what was happening before me) --after about 30 minutes I'd brought it down to around 100bpm and felt right sitting there, mixing dubby, cosmic, soulful sounds.  I loved it and wanted to keep going after 2 hours lol.  Def going back next year.

I’ve been hearing about this Vancouver Island festival for years from some of my favourite people.  One of B.C.’s most beautiful beaches, well curated diverse lineup focussing on Island Talent, while pulling some big names.  I missed the deadline to apply last year, and wanted to be sure to come on strong this year.  I mixed this one time in my studio based on a closing slot I performed at Kwench’s Halloween Jam a week previous.   It was a sweaty mess and I figured it would be a strong demo. DJ Primitive Techno Stomper Fall 2015

DJ Primitive- Junglist Tribute

I didn’t know when I’d put this out, as its a pretty serious deviation from my normal sound system sets which, for the last 10 years or so, lean towards techno and house.  My efforts will always focus on these styles, however, my love of reggae has kept me looking for its more futuristic, large sound system leaning offshoots.  Despite being from the coast, I first heard Jungle in St. Catharines Ont. in 1997 or 98- and quickly heard a lot more of it as I started to frequent Toronto’s peaking rave scene of the day.  Marcus Visionary, Freaky Flow, Capital J, Mystical Influence, Jungle Souldier- where some of my biggest influences from that time.  Internationally it was Kenny Ken, Ronny Size and his Represent crew, Marky, AK1200…

Flash forward a couple years and I was back out west- looking to live the dream up in Whistler.  One of the first people I met was DJ Phroh- who has been a Junglist ever since.  We travelled to Hollywood to have his first Dubplates pressed and rocked countless house, forest and club parties- one winter we both djed the ski and snowboard park for free passes- all jungle and breaks- all vinyl- for a season and at the end of the season we got to rock the finals of the ski and snowboard slopestyle- on course, directly under the judges.  good times.  

So when Phroh invited me up to Pemberton for his wedding and Drum and Bass Bar b q I was there.  It was a gorgeous ceremony by a river followed by amazing live music from local reggae legend Kostaman and then we went in.  Sets from Q Project- originators from the uk, Bullet Bill from Vancouver, Homeboy Morgan Tedder, MC Lozen and Deadly Cam plus I got to play the first Jungle set I had played in 12 years.  

So I finally got the chance (newborn daughter keeping me busy) to record the set.  I knew I had to come correct on this or risk it quickly becoming a forgotten novelty.  I think it deserves to stick around.  I hope you like it.  Much love.

DJ Primitive Gettin' It- Song And Surf 2016 Free DL Link in Description

This was my personal favourite set of 2016- have a few more hammer sets coming up, but none that will allow me the freedom to get wild with it than my saturday night set at WolfSheep for Rifflandia 2016(Free DL Link https://hearthis.at/primitivehustle/djprimitivedubselektawolfsheeprifflandia2016-tracklist-in-description/).  The Dubselekta crew had a different theme each night, Turntablists on thursday, Drum and Bass on friday, and on Saturday they had a future booty vibe going.  I played after Arctic, who played a dub techno, techno and uk garage set and before Ganjoid and Ghostwhip from Philthtraxx- a label bent on taking classic detroit ghetto tech sounds to the future.  I wanted to bring a set that combined some cool 95 bpm bass music hybrids with booty breaks, acid breaks and techno- and then finish it off with footwerk, juke, and classic ghetto tech- which is how ive been finishing a number of soundsystem sets in the last couple years.  I was feeling it.  Hope you do too.  Turn it up.  Get loose.

I came straight from the beach to play this set on a sun drenched afternoon at The Commons in Victoria B.C.  Then i went  back to the beach the following day to puth this extended freestyle mix to the test.  I'm very pleased with the results.  Beach vibes meet house vibes on lock.  3 hours of it.  dive in.

Playing music on New Years Day is always one of my favourite sets of the year.  We've all put the old year to bed and come together to share in the coming years rich potential.  Over time, I've found that the sets that resonate are the ones that riff on classics, are rich with soul, that are just all the way down funky.  Comfort music.  Feel good music.  
 Accessible, but done right, hits for the heads as well.  I nabbed this recording from a set that I did not think was going to happen.  2020 was a rough year.  I hadn't performed since August as pandemic lockdowns had curtailed 99% of live music.  So I really wanted to catch the feels right.  Glad I captured this.  Hope you enjoy.
