feelswithcaps is a Finnish Electro-Pop group consisting of singer-songwriter Sofi Meronen, keyboardist Mikael Myrskog and drummer and producer Aleksi Kinnunen.  feelswithcaps’s songs have always featured quite melancholic and introspective lyrics, but paired with dreamy synths and energetic beats which is why the band describes their sound as 'dancing through melancholy landscapes'.  It’s been an ever-evolving journey for the band: from their first gig on a terrace in Helsinki and their first EP ‘Butterflies’ in 2016 which created lots of buzz in their home country, to writing their debut album’s songs in moldy rooms in London. 2019 saw them releasing their smash ‘Drains’ which got picked up by Spotify’s Fresh Finds, i-D Magazine, MTV and London’s Soho Radio.  

In October 2019, the band has released the first part of their debut album which showcases their new, bolder sound. Thematically, a lot of the songs are about relationships and romance pain and struggling with the world when you’re growing up through your twenties. Sofi: "They are like all my diaries put into one album".  It’s a collection of songs that have been written over a long period of time. Some at feelswithcaps’ home in Helsinki, one in New York after spending hours laying in the music video room of a Björk exhibition and others in London where Sofi has lived for a year, a bit culture shocked and deep in feelings.  The music is a unique mix of pop melodies and space/fusion/house elements.

I have a selection that, at least for me, has created a powerful sense of capability, that kind of melancholic euphoria, you probably know what I mean? 

Shared experience and piecing that together is sacredly important to me. I am willing to take risks when crafting that together.  What does that mean in practice? 
I’ve noticed that having a few surprises up my sleeve in terms of music selection really helps with that. When the crowd is even a little on edge, wondering what’s coming next, it keeps that good tension and collaborative vibe alive.

Over the past years, I’ve more often managed to create that “in the same boat” feeling on the dance floor. That’s the most important thing for me: when I see people exchanging approving looks, collectively building the co-created experience. 

I’m happy to put myself in a vulnerable position, even risk becoming laughed at in a situation where some electronic music purist might say, “You can’t do that, it’s tasteless crap.” But then it ends up working on the floor in that moment. And if it doesn’t, that’s a price I'm willing to pay. 

I believe emotional intelligence is just as essential to a great DJ as musical taste and a well-stocked record collection. Hundreds of nights spent on dance floors don’t hurt either.

I take this craft very seriously, but that doesn’t mean I can’t approach it with a touch of playfulness. I' active atm and in the past year I have played from Après-Ski in the Alps to Clubs, Bars to Underground Raves to regional Burning Man events. 

I spend hours daily digging new music. I have a vast collection, spanning from indie dance to minimal, progressive, deep house, and techno.  

I'm always excited to play. I have a deep addiction to moments where magic and emotions are co-created on the dancefloor ✨✨
