Moving the cursor from lithe and pacey future-ready electronics to glassy-textured soundscapes straight out a sci-fi-esque utopia, Front Left Records’ leading duo Elad Magdasi and Mathias Weber stopped by to grace us with a choice two-hour mix spanning the largest part of their non-binary dancefloor poetics. True to their sense of unprejudiced audio expansionism, this one finds the Berlin-based pair laying down a scrumptious assortment of dashing 4x4 horsepower, finely balanced emotional climes and mind-broadening melodic apexes to douse yourself in. Just hold back the clock's deadly frantic ride for a couple hours and drift to a wholly different time zone.

Today is the 7th anniversary of my first ever live set @ Awakenings festival in Holland. It was fun/stressful/hellish and probably the hardest i've ever worked to prepare for a set, ever!
3 months of prep, breaking down each track and recreating it on a live set up that wasn't the same as my studio, to perform at Awakenings, Monegros and a Machine party in London, it was a massive learning curve, a big step out of my comfort zone and a genuinely rewarding experience.

Here's a recording of my last practice session, recorded in my studio the day before. This has never gone public before, i hope you dig it!

Ben Sims 'Live Set Practice' June 2013

The final episode of Exit Planet Earth Series 2 on OpenLab is a special extended music only mix that takes in some of my favourite records produced in 2020AD. It’s not intended to be a ‘Best of 2020’ but more a selection of the records that resonated thru the year for me personally. There are many more that could have been included.

These are some of the records that inspired me, records that blew my mind, records that picked me up when I felt down, records that made me realise why I love electronic music, records that captured the times, records that gave us beauty, records that were just down right dirty, records that made me imagine distant worlds and records that made me want to stay on planet earth.

Exit Planet Earth 2020AD by Ralph Lawson

Joel started his exploration into electronic music at an early age and by his late teens was an avid record collector and DJ playing at small underground events around Yorkshire inspired by his regular visits to seminal Leeds clubs Back II Basics and The Orbit.

His record purchases from Leeds underground Techno record shop DS2 spiked some interest from the owner, Paul Adamson, who was also the promoter of the now legendary Leeds Techno institution ‘Detatched’ who, after hearing some of Joel’s mixes asked him to warm up for their upcoming guest Oscar Mulero.

After this a residency was secured and Joel played alongside some of the best names in the scene at Detatched and at various parties around the UK and Europe.
Joel now resides in Manchester where he promotes and Dj’s at underground Techno events under the ‘Process’ banner. Recently collaborating with another hugely respected Manchester Techno night Signal the groups efforts are about the truly underground side of the Manchester Techno scene. Pushing forward with their visions of the future not current trends.

Joel’s Dj sets reflect this vision and his style is his own take on futurism, funk, energy and soul.
