90年代末、東京のアンダーグラウンドシーンに存在したトラックメーカー、阿部式は、2010年に12インチを1枚リリースした後、忽然と姿を消した。彼の足跡を辿る唯一のよすがとなる幻の盤、それがこの「とうふ事件」だ。11年の時を経てデッドストックとして発見されたこのシングルは、アブストラクトなブレイクビーツとドープなミニマルハウスの2曲が収録されており、そのいずれも、まるで深く焚かれた煙幕から垣間見える、息を呑むほど鮮烈な夕景色のように、情緒的で雅趣に富んだ作品に仕上がっている。

At the end of the 90s, trackmaker, Abeshiki which existed in the underground scene in Tokyo, released one 12" in 2010 and then abruptly disappeared. This “Tofu Jiken (Tofu Incident)” is the only record that can help us to follow his footprints. Discovered as dead-stock after 11 years, this 12" includes two tracks of abstract breakbeats and dopeful minimal house, both of which are emotional and elegant like a glimpse of the breathtaking vivid sunset sequence through the deep smokescreen.

OddlyMerged is a final composition of seven tracks which have been developed specifically with the intention of being combined for this release. Each piece has its own experience in the way rhythms and percussions interact with one another.

The tracks are a combination of modifications and fusion of various melodic and drum ideas. Each piece, from deep basslines to experimental synths, is a study of sound and texture. The elaborately designed melodies, which are interlaced with the percussion components, add to the music's intricacy.

From start to finish, the listener is taken on a musical journey, with each track building on the one before it to create a seamless soundscape. The concept of contrast serves as the foundation for the final three tunes. They experiment with the notion of combining two unique sounds to make something new.

The album is an investigation of the limits of music production. It is evidence of the ability of imagination to produce something fresh and original. Oddly enough, the songs all mesh together in an engaging and fascinating way.

Richard Devine's demo of the Mutant Snare eurorack module (amongst others). He seems to have made good use of the external input to morph the Snare into something completely different!

His description of the patch:

"I took 5 sources into the external input, and then multiplied the output and fed it back into it self so you get this really hi-fi feedback sound at times. 
Used the Low-Gain Electronics Short Bus V2, with 5 sources running in, then took the summed output back into the Snare to get these glitchy broken like sounds, then slowly opened the decay allowing for more of the external signal coming through and then I flipped the switches to turn on and off different effects.

キッチュで聴き手の情感に寄り添う温かいサウンドを表現するロンドン育ち／メルボルン在住のミュージシャン兼プロデューサーRob Mastertonによるソロ・プロジェクトSuper Magic Hats、本作は、2017年3月にリリースされele-kingから発刊された《初音ミク10周年ーボーカロイド音楽の深化と拡張》にインタビューが掲載されるなど好評を博した2ndアルバム『Wish』に続く待望の3rdアルバム！

ドリーム・ポップ・チルウェイヴといったイメージを軸に、一聴するとコケティシュかつスタイリュシュな印象を持つサウンドの中に、温かさ、楽しさ、懐かしさ、物悲しさといった都度の感情から想起される叙情性がより深い音楽性とともに瑞々しく帰結しており、90年代から脈々と受け継がれる良質なダウンテンポ～ブレイクビーツを踏襲した無駄のないプロダクションと相まいその音楽的クオリティーを確かなものとしている。またロンドン～メルボルンなどで培ったであろう80年代以降の多様なサウンドがSuper Magic Hatsの手腕の中で見事に昇華されており、それが本作の世界観を広げ魅力的なものにしている。

ゲストヴォーカルとして、人気音楽ユニットHer Ghost Friendのボーカリスト兼絵描きのおのしのぶ、分解系レコーズよりアルバムを発表しPROGRESSIVE FOrM作品でも幾度となくボーカリストとして参加するSmany、アメリカ人のBobと日本人のTeshiによるユニットElleh、ナイジェリア出身でオーストラリアで育ち～現在はメルボルンを拠点に歌手／モデル／女優として活躍するAkosia、そしてシューゲイズロックポップユニットChelsea Terraceと併行してソロプロジェクトGrayNightlyとしても活動するMayumiが参加しているほか、M2／7／8／10で初音ミク、M3／5でIrohaを起用、日本の音楽にとても詳しい彼が創り出す音楽はあたかもウルリッヒ・シュナウス、Bonobo、Bibioといったアーティストが様々なボーカル曲をプロデュースしたかのような趣きとして感じ取れるかもしれない。

また本作には、2016年1月に2ndアルバム『Star Cocktail』をリリースしたAyaによるソロプロジェクトfraqsea、2017年9月にリリースしたアルバム『don't watch the sun』が高い評価を得たユニットiLUのプロデューサーShin Wada、2018年3月に8枚目のアルバム『Made In Hope』をリリースした名古屋を拠点とする電子音楽家House Of Tapes、そしてメルボルンを拠点とする人気プロデューサーWinterparkのリミックスを収録。

マスタリングは、シアトルを拠点にユニットThe New Lawなどのアーティスト活動と併行してBreakpoint Mastering主宰するAdam Straneyが担当、またアートワークは、オランダ出身でシドニー在住のサウンドデザイナー／プロデューサー兼アーティストのJulienが担当した。

ロンドン育ち／メルボルン在住のミュージシャン兼プロデューサーRob Mastertonによるソロ・プロジェクト"Super Magic Hats"。
ポップなメロディーを主軸にノイズと実験性を織り交ぜたキッチュなサウンドを展開、一般的な楽器以外の物をも含めたサンプリングをベースに心地よい空間系エフェクトを施し複雑かつ綿密に構築し、聴き手の情感に寄り添う温かい楽曲をプロデュースしている。

これまでに、米シアトルのHush Hushレーベルよりアルバム『Separation』を2016年5月にリリース、4枚のEP『Daydram』（Hush Hush 2015）『Slowly』（Tanukineiri 2015）『Kumori』（Hush Hush 2014）『Super Magic Hats』（Self 2013）、また4枚のシングルをリリースする。

Super Magic Hatsの楽曲「Happy Jazz」と「Hangin'」がオーストラリアとメルボルンの大手ラジオ曲＜Triple J＞と＜Triple R＞で大きく取り上げられたことにより2011年にまずはメルボルンのシーンで注目されることになる。それが発端となり楽曲「Happy Jazz」はBleep.comの未契約トラックを集めた部門で4,000曲の中から最優秀を獲得、英BBCの＜Radio 6＞でもオンエアーされさらに高い評価を得ることとなり、エレクトロニックのニューカマーを収録したBleepのコンピレーションにも収録される。

同年9月からライブ・パフォーマンスも開始、その後シドニー出身のインディー／ダンス・バンドRÜFÜS（RÜFÜS DU SOL）、Warner MusicオーストラリアのアーティストThe Kite String Tangle、米Ghostly InternationalのShigetoらのツアーをサポート・アクトとしてオーストラリアの有名な会場で数多い公演を行う。

2017年3月、2ndアルバム『Wish』をPROGRESSIVE FOrMよりリリース、7月には青山Cay、Dommune、Circus大阪などで来日公演を行い、その際に受けたインタビューが8月31日にele-kingから発刊された《初音ミク10周年ーボーカロイド音楽の深化と拡張》に掲載され、また2018年3月に同じくele-kingから発刊された《ボーカロイド音楽の世界 2017》では『Wish』がレビュー掲載される。
そして2018年12月、より音楽の深さと叙情性を纏わせた秀逸な3rdアルバム『Pure Paradise』をリリースする。
