A regular contributor to the finest dance music imprints of the underground scene, Simos Tagias makes a welcome debut on Meanwhile with his 'Euphoria' EP.

Bursting onto the scene in late 2012 and early 2013 with a clutch of releases on Modu and Lynx Records, Simos Tagias has overseen a career path with a steady upwards trajectory that has since seen some 400 production credits to his name. Indeed, Clubsonica Records, Mango Alley and Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music have all played regular host to the Greek artist’s work, not to mention successful releases on Cid Inc.’s Replug and Aly & Fila’s hugely successful FSOE.

Now opening his account on GMJ & Matter’s ever-growing Meanwhile, 'Euphoria' immediately impresses as a collage of elements fly across the sonic spectrum while a clicking ambient effect and grooved percussion provide dance floor character. Building in effervescent fashion, reversed synth motifs vie with delicately delayed phrases as a plethora of spot effects swim enticingly around the listener’s head. Winding up after a dizzying breakdown, the third movement carefully combines all the elements introduced in the earlier stages through a mind-melting melange of frequencies that pitches and falls in an innovative wall of sound Phil Spector would be proud of.

'Emotion' is a high-octane offering powering forward with chest-thumping kick and immaculately syncopated percussive groove. White noise infused synth motifs soon fill the sonic spectrum as a rapid-fire 16th note bassline carries the melodic elements with ease. Full of emotion and beautifully flowing synth lines, the track reaches its musical zenith at the breakdown before hitting its stride in the second half where all elements converge in lay lines of raw power and emotion.

With their first collaborative project Artfaq and Ezequiel Arias land on Cid Inc's Replug Records with 'Babel'. Hailing from Cordoba, Nacho Ferroni and Nacho Varela make up the Artfaq production team. The Argentinean duo have found favour amongst progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, while finding a home on Antrim's rapidly rising Or Two Strangers imprint. Similarly, upon making his debut in 2013, Cordoba resident Ezequiel Arias quickly became a favourite of the two storied DJs as well, eventually leading to releases on Guy Mantzur's Plattenbank Records, Sudbeat Music and Suara. Also a member of the Replug artist roster, Ezequiel made his label debut in November of 2017 with a contribution to the 'Defined 01' collection. Now making a welcome return to the Finnish imprint, Ezequiel pairs with label debutants Artfaq for a highly anticipated EP. 

Comprised of two tracks it's the title piece 'Babel' which leads the release off.  Putting your emotional centres on high, a bed of warm beats and hip swinging rhythms set the stage for a full, driving groove. Redolent effects add an astral charm as the first act unfolds, while fragmented melodies are gently teased as the main break commences. Coming to full realization yet tastefully indistinct, it's a musical narrative for the astute connoisseur, delivering a profound emotional message before smoothly transitioning into a groovy finale. 

Rounding out the EP is the equally stunning 'Polaroid'. In crafting a smooth rolling groove, the Argentinean trio have fashioned a strong foundation, complemented with hypnotic pulses and percussive drive. Charming in design and emotive in delivery, harmonic phrases slowly engulf the framework, carrying the piece into joyous second act. As the bassline melts down, melodic motifs converge, opening up for moments of exuberant warmth and hopeful reflection, before a pulsating final act unites rhythm and groove for devastating dance floor dynamics.  It caps off a hugely successful collaborative project from three of Argentina's most highly touted artists. A meeting of music minds where the end result further cements Replug's ethos of delivering unique and exciting projects.

Cid Inc’s Replug Records continues a successful year by welcoming Mike Griego back to the label for a new single. The Argentinean artist and progressive music favourite highlighted 2019 with the April release of his 'Decoy' EP for the Finnish imprint. The year saw further successes with a contribution to Hernan Cattaneo's Balance Sunstrip Strip compilation, along with his well received 'Sienna' EP via Sudbeat Music. Now presenting his first original project of 2020, Mike lands back on Replug with 'Solaris' alongside a remix from Cid Inc.

In what continues to be a productive partnership, Mike delivers some of his finest work to date for Replug with 'Solaris'. Warm beats, rippling bass tones and rolling percussion set the piece in motion, as harmonic drifts and fragmented melodies encase the framework. Tranquil arps further the narrative, perfectly foreshadowing a heartfelt centrepiece highlighted by harmonic overlays and luminous tones. As the break builds, a bed of thunderous bass begins an exhilarating rise, with modulation peaking as a vocal overlay sparks a driving finale.

Returning to his esteemed imprint and providing the lone interpretation of 'Solaris' is Henri Hurtig aka Cid Inc. The Finnish artist began the year in fine style with a remix for Einmusika, before teaming up with Replug label mate Orsen for a superb rendition of DJ Zombi's 'Octopus'. Perhaps sitting as 2020's highlight however was the March release Henri's 'Citadel' EP. Also coming courtesy of Replug, the two-track offering enjoyed an extended stay in Beatport's Progressive House charts, while receiving play from Guy J and Hernan Cattaneo. Now following a remix of D-Nox & Beckers 'Bitter Rain', Cid Inc returns to Replug with a thrilling take on 'Solaris'. Electrically charged with thumping kicks and a tighter take on the groove, it’s energetic prowess beams brightly. Binding rhythmic flow with reprocessed vocals and dreamy arps makes for a sleek yet commanding first act. Colourful overlays heighten the senses as pixie-like melodies fades in and out of coherence leading into the break. Grandiose and soothing in equal measure, glowing tones highlight the centrepiece, elevating mode before getting washed away as the groove gallops towards a stirring final movement.

With ‘Solaris’ Mike Griego has added another important piece to his resume, one which gets 2020 off to a great start and continues his fruitful relationship with Cid Inc’s Replug Records.

Cid Inc’s Replug Records welcomes Interaxxis back to the label for a new two-track EP. Since making their label debut in 2016, Emiliano Folgar and Martin Kazez aka Interaxxis have found a comfortable home on the Finnish imprint. The Argentinean duo have since gone on to provide an EP and single for the label, while also being primary contributors to Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music, Nick Warren’s Hope Recordings and Guy Mantzur’s Plattenbank Records. Now following a collaborative remix with Lost & Found alum Sahar Z and their latest Sudbeat offering ‘Bleakness’, Interaxxis returns to Replug with the much anticipated ‘Bowry’. 

Beginning with the title selection Interaxxis explores the darker realms of their highly regarded repertoire. Atop a tough, rolling foundation comes arpeggiated rhythms, buzzing stabs and striking percussion, resulting in a unique contrast of character and groove. Effervescent effects and stream-like sweeps continue to build the narrative, ultimately setting the course for an enthralling lead melody. Tense yet cosmic, its dramatic nature elevates across the main break, flowing through expressive modulation, before an exhilarating crescendo spearheads a charged finale. 

The EP’s second and final selection finds Interaxxis collaborating with fellow countryman Guille Cornejo aka Antrim. Also a Replug alum, the Cordoba resident made his label debut in 2019 with the well received ‘Trip To Red’. As a long-time favourite of progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, Guille also boasts an impressive resume, highlighted by releases on Sudbeat Music, Hope Recordings and his own Or Two Strangers imprint. Now coming together for their first ever joint production, Interaxxis and Antrim round the release out with ‘Isolation’. Its dark beginnings prove intriguing, as punchy beats, perfectly contoured bass and striking percussion unite for a robust rhythmic core. Devilish effects further it’s fiery flair, before hopeful overlays and nostalgic chord changes shift the mood into emotive territory. Building through an array of impressive artefacts, the centrepiece captivates with a rare unpredictably, before eventually accelerating to a tasteful crescendo and effects laden drop. It rounds out an impressive return to Replug for Interaxxis and Antrim, who continue to be two of the world’s foremost progressive music talents.

'Presenting their debut collaborations, Dmitry Molosh and Nopi land on Cid Inc’s Replug Records with ‘Consciousness Switch’.  Label artist and progressive music star Dmitry Molosh has found a comfortable home on the Finnish imprint. After rounding out 2019 with the chart topping ‘Cascade’, the Belarus based artist returned to Replug this year alongside fellow countryman Michael A for their ‘Integral’ EP. Dmitry’s 2020 has also been highlighted by his latest project for Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music entitled ‘Elison’. Having first appeared in March of 2019, Nopi has enjoyed a meteoric rise through the organic house underground. In just eighteen months the Ukrainian artist has found a home on Akbal Music, Kindisch, Sound Avenue and When We Dip XYZ. His fresh approach to deep and dreamy melodies has propelled him to one of the genre’s top up and coming artists. Now making a welcome debut on Replug, he teams up with label veteran Dmitry Molosh for a two-track showcase entitled ‘Consciousness Switch’. 

Getting underway with the title selection, Dmitry and Nopi combine their extensive forces for a cosmic slice of progressive house. From its full, muscular groove comes driving percussion, robust rhythms and ethereal effects. Evolving with power and class, placid atmospheres provide a colourful backdrop for a landscape of striking electronics. A majestic break sits at the heart of the journey, expertly crafted and spanning nearly two minutes in length, it’s effervescent rumble builds, as rising effects marry heartfelt harmonics for a commanding drop and enormous finale. 

Continuing the progressive minded ethos of the EP is the equally brilliant ‘Ungovernable’. Warm and mystical from the outset, the piece pulsates with cross cultural vocals blanketing rippling bass tones and free form effects. Effervescent stabs add character and grit as the vocal narrative evolves leading into the main break. Twisted bass modulation adds a wave of tension across the centrepiece, flowing through an unpredictable storyboard, before getting washed away in a rush of sonic decay and spirited vocals. Flawlessly tailored for an astute dance floor, it rounds out two stunning creations from Dmitry and Nopi, who have made their debut collaborative project a most memorable one.'

'Roger Martinez's Higher States begins the new year by welcoming Simos Tagias to the label for his debut EP. As one of the most recognized names in progressive house, the Greek artist has landed releases on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Cid Inc's Replug Records. The Athens resident has continued to explore the creative realms of the genre in recent years, expanding his repertoire to it's more techno inspired derivatives, while never losing sight of his much-loved melodic sound. Now following a remix for Proton Music to begin the new year, Simos makes his first appearance on Higher States with 'Waterdrop / Fluxer'.

Approaching a decade-long production career, Simos continues to flourish, earning praise from the underground's elite DJs. The smooth, evocative vibes of 'Waterdrop' get the release underway and appear set for a similar fate. Following a prelude of warm beats, hip swinging percussion and wavy arps, comes redolent rhythms and soulful swells. Tastefully timeless and evolving with an energetic prowess, it's a spacious lead theme which shifts the narrative further into transcendent territory. Wispy effects and fragmented vocals add depth and emotion, coming to full fruition during the main break and elegantly peaking for a spirited final act.

Completing the release in fine fashion are the dreamy tech-vibes of 'Fluxer'. Showcasing a tighter rhythmic prowess than its predecessor, it's compact core and rippling low end aim squarely for the dance floor; while an airy resonance delivers a subtle yet powerful emotional response. Smooth and evocative, its seductive cadence pushes forward into a charming break, blanketed with glowing pads and iridescent effects, before ultimately melting down into a chugging finale. It rounds out a stunning two track showcase from Simos, setting the course for what should be an excellent year for the Greek artist.'
