Leading Australian touring brand Thick As Thieves launch new in-house label as they welcome German duo Super Flu to deliver their ‘Pancham’ EP, accompanied by a remix from rising Australian pairing The Journey.

An influential name down under for the last decade, Melbourne-based event favourites Thick As Thieves continue to lead the way when it comes to the curation of international and local talent within the Australian house and techno scene. Featuring as the country’s premier touring company, bringing names such as Patrick Topping, Claptone, Andhim, ANNA, Rebüke, and Mathew Jonson to name just a few to Australian soil over the past few years, April sees a new string added to the brand’s bow as they launch their new self-titled in-house imprint, continuing their ethos of ‘Raising The Vibration’.

Developed naturally across the past ten years, the label will bring tracks discovered on the dancefloor to a global audience and serve as a home for fresh music from leading international names including Monkey Safari alongside exciting, rising Australian talent such as Not Just Me. Kicking things off, 9th April welcomes the label’s debut release courtesy of leading German duo Super Flu, who step up to deliver their entrancing ‘Pancham’ EP following music via the likes of Dynamic, Crosstown Rebels, and Moon Harbour, backed by a remix from emerging Melbourne-based duo, The Journey.

Title cut ‘Pancham’ showcases the German pairing at their best, combining crisp organic percussion with wavering synths, eerie eastern-influenced melodies and rolling grooves, whilst ‘Nicotine’ weaves off-kilter leads atop of wandering stabs, sharp drum licks and snaking low-ends to showcase two original cuts packed full of quality. Rounding out proceedings, rising Melbourne pairing Jacob Malmo and Tom Evans, aka The Journey, up the energy and introduce pulsating bass patterns, vocal chants and hair-raising builds throughout their interpretation of ‘Nicotine’ - shaping up a slick label debut from one of Australia’s most important players within the house and techno landscape.

The duo's releases have always received high praise, with support from across the electronic music world.

DJ AroZe and Mimram know a thing or two when it comes to mind-blowing productions, as they deliver an irresistible track that kicks off nicely with melancholic vibes that set the tone. They move effortlessly through progressive and melodic inspired tunes, while Late At Night's sensual chords and vocals sit beautifully over the percussive base.

The B-side of this masterpiece takes it up a notch by introducing the vocal work of Aves Volare, while upping the tempo with cleverly programmed drums and the producers' trademark atmospheric effects elements. The mystical "Unify" raises the energy levels but heightens the melancholy with elements both stripped back and lucid at the same time, before luscious pads adorn the mix changing the mood and creating a blanket of warmth that envelops the affected groove.

DJ AroZe and Mimram have found the formula for a slightly monumental outing, nothing better to send 2021 off with from Lost on You. A release with a sober style that offers elegant but essential beats. "Late At Night" manages to convey a message of emphatically sustained musical relevance to warm the soul. Not to be missed.

Blanka Barbara lands on ICONYC for her full-length debut titled 'Forgotten Pharaoh' in collaboration with renowned vocalist Jinadu. The UK based producer continues to be one of the top tier progressive house artists with continued support from the likes of Hernan Cattaneo, Guy J and Nick Warren, along with releases on Mango Alley, Eat My Hat and Krafted among others. 

'Forgotten Pharaoh' finds Blanka and Jinadu at their creative best with a driving, hypnotic production that's nicely dialed in or the dance floor. Punchy beats and a full, driving groove anchor the piece, as vibrant tones and spacey effects adorn the framework. Once the main break hits with Jinadu's outstanding vocal work, the stellar charm of the composition quickly saturates your pleasure centers, before melting down to a resounding reservoir as the beats drop for a storming finale. Outstanding work from Blanka & Jinadu.

The first remix of 'Forgotten Pharaoh' comes courtesy of non-other than Aaron Suiss, who returns to the label with a deep melodic remix here. The US artist reshapes the original elements into something deeper and more melodic spacious sounding. The wonk factor on the low end is quite high and monumentally groovy as well, nicely playing off the rolling rhythmic qualities as dulcet hooks and gentle harmonics drift in and out of the framework. The main break shifts the narrative into more emotive territory but the dance floor sensibility remains, with muted beats and percussive clusters building towards a tasteful drop. Superb rework from Aaron. 

The third and final interpretation of 'Forgotten Pharaoh' comes from label debutant Jast. The French producer follows up on excellent releases on ERRORR, Addicted & Zatar Music with a brilliant interpretation here. Deep, compelling and acutely mysterious, its deep melodic qualities and richly textured groove make for a lovely first act. As atmospheres evolve, distinctive stabs and vocal edits steal the air, before a one-minute break takes you further into a haze of psychedelic audio, perfectly setting up a groovy finale. A brilliant remix from Jas/t that's likely destined for the sets of the big boy brigade. Highly recommended.
