Premiere: Chicola - Tipsy [Lost & Found]

Continuing 2022 in style, Meanwhile welcomes Analog Jungs to its roster with their emotive “Surrender”.

From the historically significant city of Córdoba, Claudio Cornejo and Gustavo Ruarte are artists at the vanguard of the underground dance scene, portrayed through their Analog Jungs production moniker. Constantly looking to develop their beautifully sculpted sound, the duo are regulars at global festivals including Burning Man, Tomorrowland and Woodstock 69, while also performing across their Argentinean homeland.

A production career has run contemporaneously with their work gracing such esteemed imprints as Mango Alley, Or Two Strangers and Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden. Supported by DJ heavyweights including John Digweed, Eelke Kleijn and fellow countryman, Hernan Cattaneo, Analog Jungs now showcase their unique talents on Meanwhile.

Opening proceedings, “Surrender” is driven by a hefty beat and offbeat percussion combination as meandering chord progressions juxtapose against a dynamic bass groove that has the words ‘floor filling’ stamped across it in large letters. Working effortlessly in syncopated joy with the rhythm section, melodic elements come courtesy of delayed chords that shimmer across the breakdown before erupting into the third movement to create a multi-faceted offering.

“Here & Now” continues the dominant kick and dynamic shaker rhythm that lays the foundation for a bassline from the depths of the Laurentian Abyss as it permeates listener consciousness with its imperceptible groove. Building with filtered subtlety, flowing pads and white noise washes, delayed chords build into the breakdown before a rousing crescendo drops back into seething and sultry dancefloor credentials.

The final track sees “Bridge” entice with it rolling percussive groove, anchored by a chest-thumping kick. White noise swells wax and wane in metronomic fashion before the track enters a new phase with ticking hit-hat groove and immaculately placed analogue synth motif. Counterpoint melodies and complementary bassline enter the fray at the breakdown before “Bridge” picks up the pace once more in the second half to dramatic and intoxicating effect.

A three-track study in musical craftsmanship, Analog Jungs have created a captivating triptych through “Surrender”.

Deepwibe Underground closes out the Spring Season with the third installment of their Chapter Series. Landing in 2021 and 2022 respectively, Volumes one and two proved to be highlights in the Estonian label's discography. Curacted by label boss Monograph and Deepwibe artist Kostya Outta, the pair set a precedent for the series, signing top tier progressive music from veterans and newcomers alike. Now on a quick turn around, Deepwibe Underground unveils the third installment of the series which has been compiled by label artist Ric Niels. Having made his Deepwibe Underground debut in January with 'Lahkuma', Ric now steps up to curate the label's Chapter series with exclusive new music from (in order of appearance): Ric Niels, The Wash, Matias Burna, Will DeKeizer, Mayro, Juan Buitrago, George Alhabel, Not Demure, Axatipe, Dowden, Dabeat and Luis Damora.

'John Cosani returns to the label with his powerful new Vulgare EP

Highly regarded among his peers, the plucky Argentinian has continued to gather pace with stand out tracks for Tale & Tone, onedotsixtwo, and Visceral to name a few. As well as DJ sets across Argentina and a stellar performance for Sudbeat recently at Stereo, Montreal.   

Opening with ‘Vulgare’ John establishes his trademark style early with rolling shakers and muted sonics filtering up over the first section, and with the pace increasing tensions grow. The midsection renders out those threads of melody and the full fleshed out track is powerful and emotive.   Next up, ‘One Dollar’ thunders from the speakers from the off. Deep and dubby, the motifs linger adding tension throughout. A strong mid-set vibe for those big event crowds. Finally, ‘Pink Power’ rounds out the collection with subtle tribal feels. Spiky mid-bass powers the tune along for those head down groovathons he does so well. Peaking at the breakdown, this is one wild ride you’ll want to be on all night long!  '

'Rising out of Argentina's electronic underground and making his much anticipated Replug debut is Ivan Aliaga. Hailing from the talent-rich region of Cordoba, Ivan’s musical palate takes reference from the progressive genre’s vast spectrum; in turn creating an authentic voice that is discernibly his own. Noted for his attention to detail, tough kick drums and electric design quality, Ivan's craft shines through vividly, making each one of his creations an exhilarating experience. On the strength of releases via Mango Alley, Meanwhile, Or Two Strangers and The Soundgarden, Ivan has earned the praise of genre trendsetters Cid Inc, Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, John Digweed and more. Now, following his latest Mango Alley vehicle ‘Blue Shade’, Ivan makes his Replug debut with a two-track showcase entitled ‘Lonely World’.

The EP’s title selection ‘Lonely World’ sets the tone with a remarkable display of rhythm and musicality. Tight, compact and bursting with ultrasonic energies, it’s a creation built around meditative melodies and temperate harmonies. There’s a strong sense of cruising across the first movement, one that allows the listener to relish in Ivan’s rippling grooves and orbiting effects, in turn perfectly setting up a series of poignant chord changes and processed piano’s which carry energy into the main break. Ivan’s craftsmanship shines across the interlude, with effervescent phrasing and fuzzed out synth swagger cleverly coaxing, eventually revealing a pixie-like lead melody which pushes onwards to a finale that is equal parts cosmic and emotive.

The companion piece ‘Speed’ follows and is an apt barometer of where Ivan’s headspace is at, as he lets tight kick drums lay the foundation for gritty percussion and devilish effects to create a darker monochrome. Energies shift and emotion rises as hopeful pads emerge, bringing depth and space to the pyrotechnic framework, before getting washed away in a wave of deconstructed sonics for a heady finale. It’s a thrilling conclusion to a fresh two-track showcase, one where Ivan Aliaga makes an impressive Replug debut, and carefully balances rhythm and groove with technique and melody.'

An artist causing a buzz with his multi-faceted productions, Nopi debuts on Proton Music with his twin-track, "Parallel Words". Remixes come from Australian and US stars.

Finding himself allied to some of the most respected modern imprints with a sought-after deep house and melodic techno sound, Nopi has carved out a sizeable reputation for himself in 12 short months after a March 2019 debut for Pipe & Pochet. Since then, music for Nie Wieder Schlafen, Kindisch and Pablo Bolivar's Seven Villas, has seen the Ukrainian hit the ground running. Following up on May 2020's remix of Erdi Irmak for Proton Music, Nopi now returns with a debut EP. The title track is an immaculately crafted affair that bristles with intricate percussive intent while a cast of elegant and emotive, melodic characters mingle and entwine in brilliant sonic patterns. The result is a swathe of filtered arpeggios, textured pads and counterpoint motifs that evolve over a 7-minute piece in magisterial fashion. "Liquid Week" continues the delicate percussive framework as fizzing hi-hats form the backdrop for hypnotic melodies to develop alongside a smooth lead sequence. Hitting its stride with the wow and flutter of tape delay at the breakdown, subtle variations add depth and texture to the track.

Fresh from the launch of their Meanwhile imprint, GMJ & Matter continue to find themselves permanent fixtures in the upper echelons of the underground dance scene. Prolific and talented, the pair's solo and collaborative work has become a central component of the Proton Music catalogue with their "Superposition", "Osmosis" and "Interscope" EPs. Remixes for Andre Sobota, Rudy and Juan Deminicis' "Tao the King" in April 2019, are now complemented by a stunning interpretation of "Parallel Words". Turning Nopi's track into a pulsating progressive house gem, a driving beat and rolling percussive groove supply the framework for white-noise washes and multi-layered pads to sweep across the stereo spectrum. Making its mark in a powerful third movement, echoes from the original cascade through the mid-range to typically mesmerising effect.

Founder of the highly regarded Manjumasi imprint alongside Atish, Mark Slee is a renowned name across the clubs and bars of his San Francisco home with notable appearance further afield in New York and Berlin. With more than two decades experience in the realm of electronic music, the US artist has developed a distinctive musical identity that has seen him feature on an array of high-profile imprints that include Looq Records, Cityfox and Seven Villas. Becoming a regular on Proton Music with remixes for Oliver Lieb, Navar and Rudy, Slee's "Veranda" EP in July 2020 showcased three original tracks full of ingenuity and musical craftsmanship. Returning to remix Nopi, the Mark Slee interpretation is full of the poise and grace that has become such a staple of his work. Building through chunky rhythmic groove, melodic echoes of Nopi's original emerge through a free-flowing electric organ that wends itself through the "Dry Ice Dub Mix" in melodic exploration. Extended delays ripple effortlessly while effects and sub-bass add weight.

Sparkling original tracks and remixes from GMJ & Matter and Mark Slee have Nopi revelling in "Parallel Words".
