'Love You More [edit]' is taken from the forthcoming album: Nathan Haines - Notes (Deluxe Edition), featuring remixes, edits & live recordings alongside the tracks that originally appeared on the 2024 album Notes.

'Love You More' has a classic deep house sound, with Nathan's signature soprano sax recorded in one single take. The tack was co-witten by Nathan's long time collaborator Phil Asher, who tragically passed away in 2021.

He  was so alive and so ‘there’ as a person…it took me a few weeks to really grasp he wasn’t part of  this world anymore. Quality deep house vibes from Offshore and Coen. "Modern Smoker" is taken from 'The Feeling EP' released next week on Freerange Records. 

Dutch duo Offshore and Coen make their Freerange debut with two perfectly formed slices of blissful, late-night deep house making up The Feeling EP. With a handful of releases under their belt, Maarten Kops and Coen Verschuuren are ready to take things to the next level and as well as their release for Freerange, also have an EP scheduled on Fred Everything’s Lazy Days later in the year.

One the B-side, Modern Smoker starts off with filtering pads and a fat kick before the main hook of the track, a speaker wobbling bassline joins proceedings.  Live hi hats and loose, disco claps help give the track an organic feel and a sense of movement whilst Djana Covic adds some lovely spoken word vocals, pitched down and processed just a bit to add that hazy, off-kilter feel.

While there’s no shortage of music in South Africa, women-owned labels remain few and far between. A Cape Town native, Rose Bonica, now helps fill this void with Roses Are Red! Launched in June, it seeks out likeminded individuals who bring casual vibes to the table. “The First Time” takes a small glimpse into her and Deep Aztec's "groovy romance.” As Ours, they debut a pair of somber original tracks. The title mix couples each artists’ specialty, like tough basslines and subtle vox, in a logical manner.

We are exited to share this beautiful piece of music AND positive lesson in mindfulness from kora musician and electronic experimenter, John Haycock, featuring a poem about anxiety, written and read by author and councillor Joshua Fletcher. We are also proud to premiere this incredible video, animated by graphic designer Finn Black. 

John Haycock is one of four artists who recently won the Steve Reid Foundation’s prestigious inNOVAtion award for forward thinking emerging talent.  The Foundation, set up by Gilles Peterson, helps artists in need due to injury or illness, as well as providing mentorship and small financial grants for emerging talent. Trustees include Gilles himself, Kieran Hebden (Four Tet), Sam Shepherd (Floating Points), Nick Woodmansey (Emanative), and Simon Goffe (Brownswood Recordings) amongst others.

John is a multi instrumentalist live looping artist passionate about affecting acoustic sounds with electronics. John’s primary instrument is the West African Kora (21 string Harp). He runs it through a series of electronic devices creating lush soundscapes & solid beats, before overlapping them with woodwind instruments.

As part of John’s mentorship from the Foundation he is working closely with Nick Emanative who is mixing / co-producing a forthcoming EP and assisting with its vinyl release. Previous inNOVAtion Awardee Sarathy Korwar (winner of the Aim Awards Best Independent Album award 2020 for the album ‘More Arriving’) has also contributed his talents to this project and will feature on a couple of tracks, whilst also helping to see its release.

Exclusive Premiere: John Haycock & Joshua Fletcher "What If?"

With two singles already out of the gate from this EP, the full release ‘Salento’ drops at the end of August. Once more Sonar Kollektiv hits the big time. The Berlin based label releases the first recordings by TTeo – Matteo Capreoli’s electronic side project.  Over the last ten years the Italian producer has become the picture perfect German-speaking singer songwriter with three highly acclaimed studio albums under his belt and a production portfolio encompassing artists like Samy Deluxe, Yvonne Catterfield, Y’Akoto and Bengio.  Only his move to Berlin and his commissioned work for a short documentary shook the foundations of the thoroughbred musician and let him reinvent himself completely. Suddenly everything was reduced and boiled down to his life, his surroundings and his music.

 

Sonar Kollektiv are probably Berlin’s go to label when it comes to a perfect blend  of pop with the club experience. The label is proud to present what Matteo Capreoli has been working on for months locked down. The outcome is the  ‘Salento’ EP, named after the region where Capreoli is from.  A release musically so ingenious as it is pure and simple that you can’t really put a finger on it’s genre.  It’s all about the vibe and the aesthetic of sound but also about the personal reflection of a musician’s life with a lots of ups and downs.

 

‘Turquesa’ opens with it’s mesmerising repetition of sunsets and the colour turquoise in Portuguese tongue.  Track ‘Violett’ emphasizes Capreoli’s passion for cinematographic music, his own voice becoming an instrument and the dramatic composition of the arrangement brings the best film score to mind.  ‘No Room For Love’ feels melancholic but lifts throughout the track to quite a pace. ‘Sepia’ hit you deep in the feels with the vocal riff ‘I feel like I’m letting you go now’, while ‘Gallipoli’ is a magnificent closing credit to this cinematic journey by Matteo Capreoli.
