Texan bliss dealer Gi Gi joins us fresh off the back of his stunning record ‘Dreamliner’, his second release to drop on Quiet Time Tapes. Gi Gi’s discography has flourished over the last few years with contributions to INDEX:Records and Good Morning Tapes, as well as features on numerous V/As. He’s a true aficionado of that in-between-zone around 105-115 bpm, and he’ll be bringing those sensual grooves to Slowcut at Le Lac on Saturday, October 19th.

Live at Nowadays - 5th October 2024

It was my first Draaimolen and no one knew it which was great. 
It was also my first encounter with Addit Audio and their sound system installed for the first time in its full glory. I can't recall being brought to tears during one soundcheck.
So there were no news, no algorithms, no expectations to be disappointed. The pit was not announced. It felt like a curious manifestation of something paranormal.
Wonderful sound system, records and sweetest weather.  
Those who found us in the small pit in the middle of the forest most likely didn't know what was going on. 
For the most part of the first 5 hours I figured out that it would be great to play for and with the sound guy, playing right and wrong records and figuring out which one sound good. Research and development mission for Addit Audio.
After 5 hours ISAbella joined for a brief back to back session. Everything can happen in the realm of paranormal. Luckily she stayed and we played together for the next 3 hours until the last song, the one for the deceased. Probably as close as it gets to transcendence.

new york-based dj and promoter como se dj comes through with a live recording from a recent recess party in montreal. with the theme being swamp fairies and como se dj closing for one of our favourites, the mix transcends between dark and light, using beautiful textural melodies to bring you into his world. 

growing up in a household that was always playing music with como se dj’s dad introducing him to a world of different soundscapes, it wasn’t until the last two years of high school that como se dj (paul) was introduced to electronic music via the all encompassing sounds of brian eno, aphex twin, portishead and massive attack. opening up the flood gates for paul, he then got into the renegade scene in montreal which is where the influence of djing came into play. now based in brooklyn, paul runs the diy sunday party series recess which was launched in response to the frequent high energy parties in new york with the aim of creating something more nourishing and softer for the queer community in the city. the previous parties have featured sets from deep creep, loif, adobeprincess, ronan, matas, kia, d. tiffany, adab, succubass, aaron j, rrao and more. 

with plans to play in the eu and moving back to montreal in the fall for studies, como se dj is soaking up the rest of his time in nyc. we caught up with paul to chat about all things recess and new york city influence, what it was like growing up in a musical household, other inspirations outside of music, and what he’s most excited about right now.

Construct Mix One: Radiator Songs (2012)

Vol. 65 comes from Hi-Vis, founder of the excellent mix series Beyond / Below, one half of Farplane, and label operator at Dreamtone. Their mixes are something special, always thoughtful in movement and resonant in feeling.
