The Grief of the Great Dictator

Mathilde Nobel and Liza Dries are two electronic artists/producers from the Netherlands, visiting Brussel to finish their collaborative EP "Akyra". With different sound aesthetics, but matching attitude, they do a b2b set at kiosk, blending their styles and premiering a track of the EP. The set will be a playful mix of deconstructed beats, vocals, experimental electronics, future angelic sounds, and breaks. Mathilde Nobel released her latest album “Founds On Lands' with rotterdam-based label Nous’Klaer and played amongst others at Dekmantel and Rewire Festival. Liza Dries released her latest EP “RL” with Cologne-based record label “Safe Space Records” and played a.o. at Paradiso Noord and Palladium. Both artists are releasing their upcoming solo albums with Intercept Records in ‘24 and ‘25.

I’ll Never Look In Their Eyes [Blend Right In] is a tribute to all those who have faced the hell of growing up with undiagnosed autism or finding themselves somewhere on the autism spectrum without knowing it. It’s also dedicated to outsiders in general—the pain of navigating a world where neurotypical people, often unconsciously or consciously, form a silent consensus to avoid understanding those who are different. This song honors the sensitive and thoughtful, those who struggle to fit into a world often ruled by the "low-empathy" and the "self-assured."

But it doesn’t stop there. I’ll Never Look In Their Eyes [Blend Right In] is also for those who grew up with mentally ill parents who never sought help, forcing their children to absorb and take responsibility for their emotions—becoming codependent, perhaps psychologically abused, or worse. It speaks to the generational trauma and lifelong challenges that come from walking on eggshells around a dysfunctional parent.

This song is a call to break the taboo around mental health and demand a change in how society views those who are unwillingly made victims of others' psychological issues. Through its lyrics and emotional depth, I’ll Never Look In Their Eyes [Blend Right In] urges us all to see beyond the façade and advocate for a more compassionate and understanding world.
