T99 - Anasthasia (Joe Farr Remix)[Arkham Audio]

T99, aka Belgian techno duo Patrick de Meyer and Olivier Abbeloos, haunted the raving dancefloors of the early 90’s techno scene and gained interminable notoriety following the release of
their hit track ‘Anasthasia’ in 1991. Floating between hardcore and ambient techno, their unique sound still resonates at the core of the modern rave scene and the undying essence of the supreme rave anthem that is ‘Anasthasia’ still lives on.
Two decades on, tenacious techno figurehead Jerome Delfosse aka Cri Du Coeur has popularised his new alias and Arkham Audio label boasting the ultimate electrifying sound. It comes as no surprise that these 90s music legends have come together to bring us the sweet nectar of old-school rave infused with the voguish touch of modern techno with this ‘T99 - Anasthasia Remixes’ compilation on Arkham Audio including remixes of the original anthem by Dave Clarke, Chris Liebing, Coyu, Truncate, JoeFarr, Secret Cinema, Oliver Deutschmann, Madben, CYRK, D.A.V.E. The Drummer, Cri Du Coeur, Exterminador, and H! Dude.
Starting us off is Dave Clarke whose take on the original mix infects the soul with exotic drum patterns and hair-raising breaks. Chris Liebing leads us into extraterrestrial territory with hazy baselines, futuristic melodies and endless space echoes taking central focus. Suspense looms as Coyu breaks into the scene with a glitching distortion of the original melody and a racing deep-techno baseline. Truncate takes the pedal off the metal on our hardcore techno journey and steers us into a buoyant tribal moment with a frenzy of tropical rhythms. JoeFarr pushes the track into powerful immortal oblivion with an overload of lightning bolt melodies and throbbing baselines. Layers of dance-inducing effervescent rhythms take control in Secret Cinema’s remix, while Deutschmann brings his potent big room dancefloor sound to the fore with the infusion of raunchy hi-hat rhythms. Madben strips the track bare in the first half of his remix, letting the reverberating melody unwind itself slowly before slamming us back into up-tempo madness. The CYRK remix boasts an electrifying melody surrounded by an expansive celestial soundscape and hazy vocals, followed by D.A.V.E. The Drummer who stays true to his name with a remix that packs in an extravagant selection of percussive patterns. Arkham label head Cri Du Couer opens up his remix with an ear-tickling hi-hat rhythm that expands into a rage of animalistic screeches as the original melody echoes in the distant background. Exterminador introduces us to his enigmatic Eurodance soundscape with twangy cosmic sounds and a mysterious serpentine base melody. Last but not least, H! Dude’s remix rounds off the compilation with an intoxicating brew of psychedelic melodies and clapping rhythms.

“When I’m in the studio I always record lots of different short ideas and phrases, most of which end up unfinished and put to one side,” explains Bakalakos. “Over the summer I decided that rather than lose them forever in the depths of my hard drive I’d go through them, almost like I was crate digging, and sample my own music. So ‘Colours’, named after the different folders I store demos in, is really this clash of styles and references from over the years blended together.”

As an act of sonic bricolage 'Colours' comes together seamlessly. Short stabs of euphoric vocals, vintage 808 percussion, filtered disco melodies and a classic French Touch bass line all combine to produce a track that comfortably sits in the sweet spot between artists like Alan Braxe and Caribou, and offers a last gasp of summer even as the nights begin to draw in.

Today, Lights Out brings you an exclusive premiere from the '90s techno duo T99. In 1991, the duo released their legendary track Anasthasia, and 19 years later, it's received a massive remix package, including an amazing electro remix from Cyrk.

PREMIERE: T99 - Anasthasia (Madben Remix) [Arkham Audio]

After the huge success of his 2nd album Solar Nights, Tim Bernhardt, AKA Satin Jackets, kicked off 2020 with a return to his nu-disco roots releasing a series of sublime instrumental singles. Now, having soundtracked the summer with hit collaborations with Metaxas and Panama, Tim caps a year like no other with a final instrumental release, the contemplative and wistful ‘A Higher Place’.

"'A Higher Place' is a track I wrote to evoke certain memories, specifically those that give me a feeling of elevation, of being lifted up. I wanted to bottle that feeling up so I could return to it when I needed a moment of reflection," explains Tim. "So for me this song is a time capsule of sorts, a souvenir of how I felt over the summer and now with the days drawing in and autumn in full force, I can return to it and sustain myself off those memories again."

A soft, gentle track, ‘A Higher Place’ combines calming synth washes with a sparkling melody, uplifting pianos and short snippets of delicate vocals to create a warm, nostalgic feeling. In the instagram version of your life, where you haven't spent the last 10 months staring at the same 4 walls, it's the kind of track that would be playing in a soft focus video where you and all your beautiful friends are dancing and laughing in a beautifully lit garden. A fast rising star within Norway's cosmic-disco scene, Bergen producer Even Hymer Gillebo aka Cavego returns to Eskimo Recordings with 'Rask Gange'. A deep bubbling bass line, crystalline melodies and a driving disco beat perfectly captures the euphoria of speeding through the frozen landscape atop a snow-mobile, the sun rising above the horizon its rays catching and illuminating the snowflakes suspended in the air like a fragile, intimate, light show. 

'Rask Gange' is  taken from Cavego's 'Dovregubben' EP, that takes its cues from the region's culture with the EP's title itself a reference from Henrik Ibsen's famous work 'Peer Gynt'. Featuring four tracks of shimmering, uplifting electronic music that can be enjoyed both at home and on the dancefloor, 'Dovregubben' revels in its playful sounds and shows exactly why the young Norwegian has already been tipped by the likes of BBC Radio 1, DJ Mag and Clash.

In the fall of 2015, Joseph Ashworth & Andrew Armstrong aka Horixon released ‘Colours’ on Eskimo, featuring the alluring vocals of Else Born from Norway’s finest pop export, Philco Fiction. Glasgow powerhouse duo Illyus & Barrientos did a remix and turned the track into a stirring piece of electro flavoured UK house. The edit is now -finally- available on all streaming platforms.
