Having worked for years in a duo, first as 3 Channels and now as the lauded, world-touring house outfit Catz ’n Dogz, Polish producer Voitek Taranczuk’s project, Ketiov, is personal. It is about focusing on his own process and creative instincts — after all, Ketiov is Voitek in reverse. Here, he indulges his boundary-breaking impulses, crossing genres and experimenting with sound. Ketiov grew up in Poland, where as a young dj hosted parties and build his musical taste. Few years ago moved from Berlin to Madrid where he continues his journey. He is a resident at Cafe Berlin in Madrid and with his husband David Rigote, started the very successful LGBTQ+ party CARBS. Releasing tracks himself and mostly on vinyl, Ketiov has repressed his 2017 “Ketiov A/B” twice due to popular demand, and received strong feedback for “Ketiov Edits 01” (Jan 2018) and “Ketiov C/D&E” (Feb 2018). “Rhythm Trainx Vol 2,” his piece de resistance featuring huge sound and only one drummer, was released on Gerd Janson’s Running Back in May 2018.

Ketiov’s innovative rhythmic play and effortless mixing of deep house, disco, techno and 90s house have landed him Dj mixes with the infamous Honey Soundsystem, Buttons, Is Burning and dance sets at clubs all around Europe including Panorama Bar and the world at large. Ketiov believes in order to be a great collaborator, one needs to pursue their own projects alongside. Only time will tell how Voitek’s addictive sound will evolve on his own and in his powerful collaborations.

After “Orpheus” dropped last April with DJ support by chief musical dispensers like Ben Sims, Call Super, Loraine James, Carista, Ben UFO, Danielle, Optimo’s JD Twitch, Nazira, Erol Alkan and more, the second outing of this new, revitalised One Eyed Jacks is yet another Photonz single leading up to the release of his forthcoming album “Communal Sweat” dropping later this year also on the label.

On “The Sun And The Moon”, OEJ label-head Photonz shows his lighter side, with sun-tinged piano hooks alternating nocturnal sentimentality, pointillist bleeps and a stripped-back snappy house beat with no extra adorn or distractions. On “White Pelican”, the second original on this single, things get a bit more abstract and intricate with angular and dialoguing grooves and sounds, laid out and organised in a live arrangement and cooked up for late sets and trippier electro-techno fantasies.


On remix services we’ve got two up-and-coming greats from Portugal and France: Lisbon-based Brazilian dj, producer and activist Cigarra steps in to transform the title-track into a fast-paced, footwork-modelled bass attack while retaining the original’s summery appeal; Parisian well-kept secret and Photonz occasional collaborator Keumel instead turns “The Sun And The Moon” into an elegant, patiently-passed acid/deep house hybrid, focusing more on its melancholy and emotive flair, and bringing it home with a dub-techno sensibility on the FX.

Artwork is once again by Príncipe-affiliated and FLUR Records record pusher Márcio Matos, responsible for the visual identity of the label since day one. Mastering by Justin Drake of Peace Division.

A serial cross pollinator, genre lines are blurred before being rewritten. “A Dream Wave” melts rich basslines and muscled percussion with a daringly upbeat counter melody. Kick drums usher in “The New Beat”. Flourishes float above the thump before Rees lets loose. Acid barbs, rave shouts and Eastern echoes coalesce in this unique work. Keeping bodies moving until the very end, Rees delivers “Electric Body”. Guitar strings and incising snares collide with a hypnotic synthline that adopts elements of synth pop and full bodied techno. Soul Habitat is an independent deep house project with musical roots firmly attached to early garage house style. At the same time, it pays tribute to the artists, who were creating the genre and the scene in 80's and 90's. Raw drum sounds, sampled organs along with classic swing grooves - each of Soul Habitat tunes brings the essence of retrospective house music with a modern twist. Throughout the organic and dirty sound, SH tracks at some point reflects human life lines - full of imperfections, jumps and sudden twists and turns, but still harmonious and resonant . You can find some melodic parts that are repeated throughout the song and those that only appear for a moment and never returns.

All of the tracks are largely inspired by the life of big cities - New York, London, Paris along with many others. The musical flavor of the productions is a combination of sound experiences gained from traveling to those places and inspirations that have been collected by listening to various music genres over the years. Each of the pieces is very often associated to distinctive architecture, cultural heritage and regular way of life of the inhabitants of large cities.

When it comes to mixing, Soul Habitat is no newcomer to the scene. More than 10 years of experience in the production and DJ-ing different genres helped to evolve a unique style of playing sets. Combining raw bouncing beats and melancholic soulful tunes, the sets that Soul Habitat plays are the essence from the classic "golden era" style of house music. And they are 100% vinyl.

Musical inspirations comes primarily from artists based in U.S., UK and France - especially those, who promote classical deep house and garage sounds, f.e. : Bicep , Washerman , NY Stomp (Gerd ) , Kool Vibe , DJ Steaw , Detroit Swindle , Motor City Drum Ensemble, DJ Nav, Ringard , Squarehead , The Groove Victim , New Jack City, Brawther, Enrico Mantini, Ultra Knites and many others.
