Our second release and the debut single from Melbourne four piece, Mildlife is finally here! 

Narrowing down the group's style into a genre is almost impossible, as they bond over the desire to push musical boundaries. No strangers to the Melbourne band scene, the four old friends have been drawing crowds through an epic journey at intimate venues and festivals for the best part of the past 4 years. Developing a tight live show bolstered by wild improvisation, the group have left punters itching for their first full length studio album that mines jazz, psych and disco for its irresistible groove.

"The Magnificent Moon" a 9 minute psychedelic disco journey is the opening track taken from Mildlife’s debut LP "Phase" due for release early 2018. Capturing the spirit of the band, this kaleidoscope jam is the interplanetary path between jazz, funk and disco with the perfect amalgamation of cosmic electronics and soulful acoustic instrumentation. 

Tom Shanahan explains its entrancing grip, “The Magnificent Moon feels like the veteran journeyman to the rest of the album. I’m not sure if that’s because it was written first or because it seems to know what it wants and has a more considered direction. It never really second guesses itself except for maybe just before the outro when he realises he may have journeyed too far and his space suit has a hole in it. But then he just jams some gum in the hole and gets on with it anyway.”

The noise travelled through the jungle as the train weaved along the bumpy line. The railway track was old and rugged, it had not been used for many years since the great gold rush and was as rickety and unstable as they come. The sound of the steam engine bumped and rumbled under the strain of the pace. The sound which fell from either side of the line then cascaded between the tall, towering trees. The sunlight beamed down through the murky leaves, it was muggy and hot, dense and sticky. Soon night would fall and the train would be long gone but the damaged remained. This was the Mandela Move....

Ricardo Villalobos returns to fine form with a tribal infused, percussive laden EP for Deset. The acclaimed producer hasn't released much of his own material as of late so this is a special treat.

Reggae's African connection meets the global ethos of Glasgow's Scotch Bonnet Records for their historic new EP. French-born, Glasgow-based producer Stalawa has voiced a talented selection of East African vocalists to thrilling effect, over his heftiest roots rub-a-dub rhythms. This project is the culmination of multiple fruitful visits to Kenya and Uganda by Scotch Bonnet proprietors, Mungo’s Hi Fi sound system. It has been fine-tuned between Glasgow and Kampala over the last three years.

The A side features the wailing voice of Ugandan singer and emcee Blessed San. Showcasing a vocal style not unlike legendary Jamaican reggae veteran Michael Prophet (despite never actually having heard him before), Traitor is a mournful rebuke to all who violate his trust. Stalawa has mixed a haunting accompanying dub: all crashing drums and biting horns.

The B side hosts a Kenyan-Caribbean collaboration on a vintage classic. Connoisseurs’ Jamaican singer Delroy Melody has recut his 1979 local hit Ease Up The Pressure, adding verses from Luganda Rasta lyricist C Wyne Nalukalala (meaning “the troublemaker”). The remade backing, based on Dennis Brown’s Easy Take It Easy, was built in Jamaica by renowned drummer Sly Dunbar and keyboardist Dennis ‘Jah D’ Fearon. Also on the flip is Kenya's “first lady” of hip hop and reggae Nazizi. Her song Ukiangalia (“when you see” in Swahili) rides a dubby update of King Tubby’s famous Tempo rhythm.
All vocals bar Mr Melody’s were recorded in Kampala, Uganda by David Cecil and Wana Benjamin of East Africa Records, with brass parts dubbed by Stalawa in Glasgow. The guitar on Traitor is the work of popular Scottish vocalist Tom Spirals. Hornplay comes courtesy of Tim Quicke, Liam Shorthall and Matieusz Sobieski.

"Pulsinger & Irl" is the collaborative project between Austrian producer & techno pioneer Patrick Pulsinger and the Bavarian producer & sound engineer Sam Irl. 
Hailing from different musical backgrounds they found a mutual connection between experimental techno, sample-heavy dub & jazz and their love for analogue machinery.

Their live-set aims at capturing the essential vibe of live-performed techno and house music, working only with drum computers, a MPC sampler, analogue synthesizers and a series of dub-heavy effects recalling the atmosphere of Jamaican dub culture, early Detroit techno and contemporary electronics.

For over 20 years Patrick Pulsinger has released his music on his own label Cheap Records as well as numerous international imprints such as R&S, M Plant, Disko B, Compost, a.o. and worked as a producer with artists like DJ Hell, Hercules & Love Affair, Elektro Guzzi, Fennesz and many more.

Sam Irl has released his music on labels such as Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings (together with Ritornell), Jazz & Milk, Bonzzaj Rec. (together with Dorian Concept), Frank Music and Pulver Records.
