I also wanted to take the opportunity to showcase some incredible new music from mates, some forthcoming Pressure Dome, and a new remix I've been working on, all of which I'm excited to share!”

A: Live edge, live wire

Q: Describe the story behind Razrbark's Specific Heat.

A: Specific Heat measures how resistant (or not) substances are to temperature changes, specifically how much energy is needed to raise the temperature of something by one degree. This concept from chemistry has always stuck with me and is something I thought of after listening to the finished product of this mix/let's be real I just think it sounds cool.

When I first started prepping for this mix, I went in a very different direction and had a rough draft, but it felt tedious, trying to force ideas and tracks in a way that required a lot of energy with little output. Sometimes, things pour out of you and sometimes, they don't. 

One day, a very exciting booking came through (spoiler alert: it was Honcho @ Hot Mass). With the adrenaline rush of the booking, I immediately started mixing tracks from the extremes of my USB, and everything flowed really easily. I decided to hit record, and it came together in a way that felt much more organic. I also unearthed many tracks I had forgotten about that were collecting cobwebs on my stick but that I always loved.

Anyway, all this to say, just like in chemistry, sometimes you need the right conditions for a reaction to truly take off~~~

Q: What is your ideal dancefloor (fictional or real).

The Bronze.

Q: When is the last track that made subs glow for you?

To me this is the perfect track. I played it at Hot Mass in Pittsburgh sometime after 6am a bit slower than this. I love how it has so much raw power behind it. Big chug NRG. I've always loved this song from the same band. It has a very Iggy Pop/Plastic Bertrand sensibility to it, but I've never been able to play it on a dance floor, so I was happy when I found this edit that is a bit more dance floor friendly and still has the rock/dance vibe that I feel is a hallmark of my sound.

Another track:
I just played this song towards the end of my set at Afterlife in Seattle this weekend. The bass was so intense my drink literally bounced across a table and fell to the floor. I'd say the subs were glowing hard.

Q: What track/artist was a musical game-changer for you?

A: Föllakzoid. It's psych rock, it's techno, it's everything. Each time I've seen them play, it's world-building and expansive. 

Q: If this mix was a book or a movie what would it be? 

A: It would be in Walk Hard Part 2, when Dewey goes through his drum and bass era.

Darwin operates in the realm of low-end frequencies, delivering a tripped-out, sub-rattling blend of styles firmly rooted in soundsystem culture.

Her sets move with swampy intensity and hypnotic flow, drawing dancers in while maintaining a quiet versatility. A seasoned crate digger across many genres, she’s as comfortable playing back-to-back with DJ Storm, Mala or Lena Willikens as she is closing out Bassiani or Berghain’s Klubnacht.

Born in Canada, Darwin found her way into dance music after moving to London—first working at fabric in the mid-2000s, then experiencing a bass eureka moment years later at a Swamp81 party. That defining night set the course for her next chapter in Berlin, where she founded her label SPE:C in 2015 to spotlight emerging global talents like Decka, Carré, Axle, Beatrice M., and Tano.
In 2016, she launched REEF at the now-defunct Griessmuehle, a club where she had started a monthly techno-focused DJ residency 2 years earlier that helped develop her signature stripped back, sci-fi-infused sound. The boundary-pushing party brought bass music’s alien energy into the heart of the techno capital, which now calls Berghain home. 

2024 marked a new chapter in Darwin’s evolution with the launch of ABYSS, a Sunday evening soundsystem series centered on the restorative power of low-end frequencies. Blending transcendental dance music with breathwork, meditation and healing practices, the event creates a space where sound connects body and mind. ABYSS has also teamed up with Wuppertal’s acclaimed Open Ground club for an extended weekend takeover, with plans to expand the concept to other cities in the future.

I've played countless times at Garage Noord since 2021, but somehow never managed to get my hands on any of those recordings until now. Here's one of my recent sets there, closing after the legend DJ Stingray. It's a sweaty, focused 3-hour ride honoring electro, flowing through acid synth lines after kicking things off with some classic breaks.

“A recording from pe:rsona in France, one of the most memorable sets of the summer for me!! 

I felt a connection to this crowd in particular and that’s not something that happens often. A lot of this is down to the people behind this festival, the pe:rsona/Positive Education crew are very intentional with what they do, they champion and support a lot of artists who aren’t necessarily ‘big names’. I think this cultivates a crowd that trusts in their curation, they’ve fostered this really special energy. 

I played on Friday night between two live sets, Christian Coiffure and Renslink. They are two incredible acts to be sandwiched in-between which inspired the set to evolve the way it did.
