On our 1st episode we are truly honored to have a stalwart artist   behind South Korea’s underground music scene to kick off the series. 
 
The Seoul based producer / dj Closet Yi  has gained  tremendous respect and following for her versatile, yet edgy productions and fresh sounding  mixes, constantly pushing the boundaries of Asia’s electronic music landscape 

With a two-year stint as resident DJ and librarian at the Hyundai Card Music Library under her belt, Closet Yi’s musical influences go far beyond just dance music. 

She’s previously released on UK labels Hotflush Recordings, Curving Tracks, and No Bad Days, as well as the Asia-based tastemaker labels Silkroad Sounds and Honey Badger Records. 

She’s honed her craft at some of the most respected clubs and festivals, DJing for Lost Village Festival, Village Underground, Corsica Studios, Minh Hongkong, and Circus Tokyo. She’s even been featured on Resident Advisor’s Mix of The Day and has crafted mixes for Crack Magazine, Circo Loco, and DJ Mag’s Fresh Kicks series. 

Successfully nailing her Boiler Room debut along with Anz, Mogwaa, and DJ Sharda, she wrapped up 2022 with Apple Music’s NYE 2023 DJ Mix as one of the 23 artists worldwide. 

Nominated as one of Beatport’s recommended artists to watch, 
Closet Yi will be touring India and various parts of Asia and Europe in the coming months with on top of her forthcoming releases, featured in her mix

“For the Bassis mix, I put together some tracks that I’m archiving as a reference for my upcoming production projects. These days, I’m more into finding pieces that inspire my studio work rather than just my DJ sets. It’s not that different in the end, but I think I’m more into drum textures and more constructive patterns,” she shares.

Carolina Schutzer aka Cashu (@carol-schutzer) is one of the key figures of São Paulo’s queer underground electronic music scene, where her work constantly communicates urgent political issues. In an attempt to occupy and decentralize the São Paulo scene, Cashu and Carneosso created the Mamba Negra collective, an independent brand which provides a platform for diversified artists. Their street events that usually take place in abandoned and uninhabited locations, such as student and artist squats, push forward the fight for female representation and sexual and gender freedom. The collective was formed in 2013 as a platform for live and organic music and has since solidified into one of São Paulo’s main electronic music parties and expanded to become a Label, Agency and Radio station.

As an active character in São Paulo’s electronic scene, Cashu frequently performs at block parties, small venues and independent collectives. She has played in over 15 cities and participated in several collectives that work for occupying, decentralizing and hacking the Brazilian night scene. She also brings her energy to big clubs and festivals such as Dekmantel Festival in SP, Red Bull Music Academy Festival SP, or abroad in Panorama Bar/Berghain, De School, Unsound Festival.

Messengers of sound from ancient rituals, Space Drum Meditation (@spacedrummeditation) harness primal tribal drums and rhythms to channel mysterious and uncharted electronic energy, opening gateways to unknown realms. Over the past five years, the Germany-based duo has cultivated a unique sonic signature, fusing traditional percussion and esoteric instruments with cutting-edge electronic elements to create music that is both untamed and deeply spiritual.

A driving force of rhythm from Brazil’s underground, RHR (@rhrmusiq) grew up in the favelas of São Paulo, where the raw pulse of the streets, from the directness of rap to the fire of funk and the thunder of drums, became the foundation of his life and the essence of his sound. It’s a sonic DNA that makes his work impossible to imitate. Whether channelling techno infused with grime, or reworking bass, dancehall, electro and baile funk, he bends each form into something feral and untamed, igniting heat and blood rush on the dancefloor.

To date, RHR has released five solo EPs, each one a kind of sonic document, mapping the layered histories and realities of São Paulo and translating them into electrifying soundscapes. Alongside collaborations with Mamba Rec, Omnidisc, Pac Recs and Nice and Deadly, he is also a core member of New York’s TIJOLO Records, leaving a distinct imprint across the global underground network.

On his birthday, we are honoured to share this special mix, a journey deep into Brazilian culture, both rugged and refined, primal yet intricate. It stands as a mirror to the country’s underground: wild, turbulent, and utterly magnetic.

Over the past 8 years that I have been a DJ, I have never put out a solo mix of my own. I've always been very critical of myself when it comes to recording a set or a session, and I just haven't ever felt satisfied enough with anything I've recorded to submit it anywhere. However, this recent mix (taken from our latest Flowstate outing in May) feels different.

Everything about this mix encapsulates what I love about all the various shades of contemporary techno. Dark, groovy, sexy & hypnotic - and all at a pace that the whole room could rock too! The stars were seriously aligned that night, and for the first time ever I couldn't be more proud to share the results with you all. Enjoy!

Tbilisi stalwart BMI brings his esoteric sound to Zenaari’s Podcast series for this next instalment. The Georgian DJ is a heavy-hitting talent on home turf, frequently stalking the capital’s venues and actively involved in several cutting-edge collectives and projects like Substract, Octachoron, Fear Pollution, 3 Suli, and Soulvent. Here we present a live recording from Franko sourced deep within the Norwegian woods at this years Fragments forest event.

This recording is from my closing set at the second forest rave we hosted with Fragments in the Norwegian woods this summer – a night that turned into our biggest production so far, and one I’m really proud of.

The set starts in complete darkness, slowly building in tempo and groove, shifting into lighter melodies and psychedelic playfulness as the sun began to rise. Morning sets like these are some of my favorites: balancing the ups and downs, keeping people on the floor without pushing too hard, while leaving space to breathe. A mix of joy, freedom, and the quiet melancholy of summer coming to an end.

As the sun rose over the hill behind me, we decided to extend the set by half an hour to let the first rays hit the dance floor through the smoke and create a truly magical morning. It gave me the chance to play some of the most beautiful tracks I know and gently bring everything to a halt. It was definitely one of the most fun and meaningful moments I’ve had behind the decks.

Born in London and having lived in Bristol, James Laing (@soundsfromthenightgarden) draws from the sounds of both cities, alongside his musical knowledge which he has gained during his classical compositional training. With releases on Melifera, Indefinite Pitch & Beatrice M's hybrid Dubstep label, Bait, Night Garden aims to create richly psychedelic & hypnotic pieces which combine modern sound design with classical theoretical concepts.

“Dubstep has been one of my favourite genres of music for years but I’ve often found it tricky to place alongside the deeper techno I usually mix. At the beginning of
this summer, dubstep is pretty much all I was listening to, so, when I was presented the opportunity to close a party I attended in Umbria in June, I thought I’d try and solve this issue. This mix builds from deep dubstep through to high-energy techno via more abstract forms of 140 in the centre.”

Today we celebrate the 50th chapter of our podcast and for the occasion there's a special one served for you. 10 years ago when we were still trance heads and started to discover the world of technoid sounds some albums gave an important impact on us. We got to hear this tribalistic and beautiful track called "Trance State" in a mixtape and when finding the whole album with its concept, artwork and hearing the rest of the music, it touched our souls. Something new but still familiar. After some years we were fortunate to be able to work with the author of that masterpiece for remix work and we're proud to have his contribution on Navigare Audio.
