This week, cult icon and noted worldbuilder Iglooghost graces TANK with a cacophonous, glitch-forward mix.

Copenhagen’s Jim Kimchi arrives next on the Realist Radio conveyor of phenoms in iconoclastic electronics.

Co-founder of the glitch.cool collective, Jim’s output approaches the uncategorisable, demolishing and reappropriating a lineage of IDM, glitch, neo-classical and ambient music. Behind some of the most mind-bending remixes in recent memory (Neon Priest, SABIWA, amaranth_todd) and a string of key 2022 EPs, Jim’s firmly been a Realist obsession for a minute now. With recent movements toward free jazz, post-club and noise distinguishing Jim’s upcoming work from prior releases, his mix stages an artist in an evolutionary period, glowing with the sense of imminence and essentiality.

The mix, comprised almost entirely of Jim’s unreleased tunes, exemplifies an artist in full control of a style of electronic experimentalism defying definition. Seeming to deconstruct a variety of club music, from jungle to DnB and Miami Bass, alongside flights into noise, sound-collage and the classical, it evokes both ecstasy and incomprehensibility. On first listen, I found myself at various times simply head-in-hands, muttering nonsensically. That picture, of a music inducing inarticulable awe, is the only real figure that encapsulates the quality of Jim’s work.

@Iglooghost is the musical alias of Bristol-based artist Seamus Malliagh, a key figure in experimental electronic music. Known for his intricate, genre-defying productions and immersive visual storytelling, his work blends hyper-detailed soundscapes with surreal, magical-realist narratives—serving as gateways into vast fictional ecosystems filled with cryptic lore and imagined subcultures.

His 2024 album Tidal Memory Exo, released on LUCKYME®, was written during a period spent squatting in a storm-battered garage on the Kent coast. The project draws from that harsh environment, imagining a world where prehistoric debris washes ashore, giving rise to trilobite civilizations and a rogue “tidal scene” of musicians inventing mutated genres like Foamtek, SporeStyle, and Germ_Musik.

Forthcoming on LUCKYME®, Iglooghost’s next EP, 「ᮜ˚」, expands the lore introduced in Tidal Memory Exo. Drawing inspiration from construction vehicles, heavy machinery, and factories, the record dives further into his vocal-led, post-punk-influenced direction teased on the last album—pushing his worldbuilding into even grittier, more industrial territory.

Chamomile (Icon Alias)

There’s a likeness to the sun in your spiraling visage. You are tethered to the celestial by your sisters: sunflower, aster, cosmo and daisy (day’s eye). At dusk, you bow to the pinkening west — at dawn, you salute the brightening east and Helios and Ra feed you in turn. You keep count in loves me and loves me nots. Your honeyed, crisp-scented, meadows heal the hills they roll over; a passage through for those willing to open and soften their bodies and minds.

Etymology: Matricaria chamomilla (German Chamomile), roughly meaning of the womb or mother. It’s Latin roots of Matrix/Mater harken back to its original association with the treatment of menstrual and reproductive problems. German Chamomile is also known as the “Water of Youth.” Chamaemelum nobile (Roman Chamomile), roughly meaning “The Noble Earth Apple.”

Properties: A member of the Asteraceae family, chamomile is native to Europe and temperate Asia, but is now naturalized across much of the globe. A cooling, calming nervine, it’s terpenoids and flavonoids lend it anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and carminative properties. In medieval folk customs, chamomile was thought to have protective properties and planting it near thresholds was said to ward against bad luck and to banish malevolent spirits from the home. Additionally, chamomile supports digestive health and reduces gas, colic, liver problems and jaundice. Ibn Sina (aka Avicenna), a seminal figure of the Islamic Golden Age, spoke of chamomile as “an opener of obstruction” that softens and decomposes.

Companions: Chamomile attracts pollinators, repels garden pests and supports neighboring plants with its antifungal and antibacterial properties. A friend to brassicas and onions in particular. In the wild, or in the garden, it thrives alongside yarrow, calendula and lavender. When allowed to naturalize, it forms a soft, fragrant lawn underfoot which deer tend to avoid. In compost, its spent blossoms accelerate decomposition — even in death, she gives ease. Chamomile is one of the nine sacred herbs in Anglo-Saxon lore, and still among the first we turn to when the world feels too loud.
