The Miami-based DJ has recently lain shed a new party series with Jonny From Space and True Vince called Objects Don’t Dance which stemmed from a monthly radio show on Klangbox Radio. They kicked off the series with an all-night-long b2b True Vine and have also booked the likes of Sepher, Mozhgan, Peach and Aurora Halal. Sister System is also affiliated with Floyd, Space, III Points and Omnidisc.

"This mix is a love letter to the emotion-driven, vulnerable, and melancholy side of my sound -- one I have not tapped into for quite some time-- in the form of weightless jungle and ambient. Through the process of creating this mix, I wished to reconnect with myself as an artist at this moment without the influence of a dance-floor, tuning into the self-reflective spirit of the winter."

The Bay Area dance music scene formed Eugenia's roots as a DJ, where she cut her teeth playing underground clubs and organizing DIY raves. Her energetic mixing style can be defined as bright, tender, and highly dynamic, jumping across many genres of dance music wrapped in a lush atmosphere -- always with her signature touch of sass. While Eugenia grew up between the Bay Area and northern Italy, she is currently based in Boston where she plays with local queer collective Enter the Boudoir. Fresh from her sets at HOR Berlin, Fast at Work in Los Angeles, Boiler Room in Boston, and Sound Gymnastics in Brooklyn, she continues to blossom further and curate her own sound. 

Outside of performing, Eugenia is a practicing poet and host of a genre-non conforming, ambient-inspired mix series called "The Shape of Memory," as a part of experimental label Ghunghru, where she asks each artist to express a memory through the arc of a mix. The spirit of this series is to re-imagine memory as a breathing, living being, one that influences our feelings and sense of self.

Following a passion for the empowering perreo that started in the 00s at her teenage parties in Galicia, Spanish MC and DJ Clara! blends revolt, sex and humor on reggaeton/rap mutant rhythms with a punk spirit and a feminist foundation. For this infectious and twisted take on the gender she joins forces with eclectic producers including Pearson Sound, Low Jack and Maoupa Mazzocchetti.

Her DJ sets consist of wide ranging, tempo hopping mixes, lead by her hispanic roots, a blind curiosity, fun and a deep love of dancing. Her iconic “Reggaetoneras” mixtapes compiled 100% female reggaeton MCs with rhythms from the ‘90s up to the modern day. Crammed with rude drums and hooks levered from major dance hits, and sandwiched with skits and personal edits.

Influences: 
As far as dance music, early progressive and psy through to newer proggy clubbier stuff, a lot of which is coming out of Melbourne! More broadly, I grew up on a lot of psych rock from the 60s & 70s, and I can feel that influencing my taste in dance music as I gravitate towards driving, whimsical, trancey sounds.

I'm currently recording the first EP for my new psych rock project Milou Moon (@milou_music) set to release September 2023. Stay tuned! I also DJ at parties around Melbourne sometimes- this mix is actually based on a set I played recently at around 2am at a park party.

This month’s Carhartt WIP Radio show features @deforrest-brown-jr, a writer and cultural theorist based in New York, who also makes music under the name @speakermusic.

In 2022, Brown Junior released his first book “Assembling a Black Counter Culture”, which in his own words, is a “historical science-fiction book about Black contributions to the electronic music industry.”

The book opens with a map from the album “The Quest”, by legendary Detroit electronic duo @drexciyaofficial, composed of James Stinson and Gerald Donald – who are the primary focus of this month episode’s mix. 

Created by Brown Jr., “The Myth of Drexciya” is a mix which features a sprawling selection of Drexciya’s discography from 1991 to 2002, revealing the “sonic fiction of the underwater civilizations’ aquatic invasion of the surface world.” 

The mix is accompanied by an interview with Brown Jr., who discusses collaborating with Detroit visual artist Abdul Qadim Haqq on his recent book, the influence that Drexciya have had on his work, and the best scenarios to enjoy their music in. Read the talk at www.carhartt-wip.com/journal/music.
