IPAC (Institute for Preservation of Art and Culture) and Kuch Khaas pay homage to one of the greatest classical singers of Pakistan, Ustad Salamat Ali Khan on the occasion of his 12th death anniversary.
We are honored to have Ustad Salamat Ali Khan's son Shafqat Ali Khan to perform on this occasion. Shafqat is one of the leading classical vocalists of Pakistan. He and his father hail from the Sham Chaurasi Gharana style of classical singing and both have brought international recognition to this Gharana.

Beloved killed me with slanted glance, "fate" was what she blamed.

Khud suye ma na deed, o haya ra bahana sakht
Deigned not Beloved meet mine gaze, "modesty" was what she claimed.

Daste ba dosh-e ghair, nihade bar-e karam
Put her arms around rival's shoulder, entwined him without pretense -

Mara chun deed laghzish-e pa ra bahana sakht
Seeing me she sprang apart, said "feet slipped", ashamed.  

Raftam ba masjidi ke bebinam jamaal-e-dost
Hurried I to mosque, hoping to see Beloved's beauty thence -

Dasti ba rukh kashid, o dua ra bahana sakht
Raised she hands to hide her face, and "prayer time", exclaimed.

Zahid na dasht taab-e-jamaal-e pari rukhan 
The pious there dared not meet, raging beauty of fairy-like face -

Kunji girift o yad-e khuda ra bahana sakht 
Retreated they to rosaries, "thinking of the Lord", they claimed.

Ustad Ghulam Fariduddin Ayaz Al-Hussaini Qawwal is a Pakistani Qawwal. He belongs to the Qawwal Bachchon Ka Gharana of Delhi. He and his relatives are the flag-bearers of that school of music (gharana), which is also known by the name of the city as the Delhi gharana. He performs various genres of Hindustani classical music such as dhrupad, khayal, tarana, thumri, and dadra. Ayaz leads the qawwal party with his younger brother, Ustad Abu Muhammad. They are probably the most sought-after qawwals in Pakistan and as well as in the South Asian subcontinent.
