After releasing the Let’s Go EP on Fort Knox Recordings last year, Qdup returns with a funky collection of tunes featuring some amazing vocalists from Austin, Texas. While Qdup was in Austin DJ’ing at the Art Outside Festival, he linked up with some of Austin’s finest MC’s and the result is the Lone Star EP. The funk flows deep in both Austin and DC and it shows on this strong release.

MC’s Tee Double and Tigre Liu channel P-funk and deliver booty shaking party rhymes to great effect on “Mothership Calling”. This tune is will heat up the party with laser effects flying, funky synth bass chops and a talk-box laden message from the Mothership to get you on the dance floor. This tune is will heat up the party with laser effects flying and funky synth bass chops laying the groove. “Mothership Calling” is remixed by Ursula1000 from NYC, who gives the track a running midtempo 4/4 Nu-Disco vibe with hints of techno, which sits beautifully with the funk laden party lyrics. “Electro Funk Boogie” is just that, a funk laced electro-funk track with Bavu Blakes gracing the mic over a slinky, boogie bassline. Miami’s quickly rising producer Warp 9 remixes “Electro Funk Boogie” with his additional talk-box vocals and glitched out funk treatment. Closing out the release, Germany’s Funkanomics put their twist on “Electro Funk Boogie”. With an infectious clav riff reminiscent of Stevie Wonder and the Funkos signature sub bass and pumped up beats, their remix is sure to pack dance floors and keep heads nodding.

Qdup and Fort Knox Five have road tested these tunes to assure their dance floor potency at festivals and clubs. The Lone Star EP comes locked and loaded to light up the dance floor. Warp9’s amazing Dub mix of “Electro Funk Boogie” along with instrumentals of all original and remixes are available.

From rocking it at Red Rocks opening for the Thievery Corporation live band to playing Lightning In A Bottle, What The Festival, Sonic Bloom, Shambhala, Bass Coast, Raindance, and Wakarusa, we can easily say that Fort Knox Five have had a very busy year – both in the clubs and out on the festival circuit. In fact, it was at the 2009 Earthdance Festival in Laytonville, California that the group was introduced to the Crown City Rockers and vocalist Raashan Ahmad. A connection was made and a promise was spoken to collaborate. Fast forward five years to 2014 and we find Raashan adding his distinctive vocals to “Ready Go”, the first new Fort Knox Five material we’ve heard in years.

Raashan Ahmad’s high-energy party rocking lyrics are the perfect match for Fort Knox Five’s distinctive funk stylings. The lyric “I live for the funk, I die for the funk, from the days of the Humpty Hump to the future” sums up this tune perfectly as it blends retro g-funk vibes from the West Coast with electronic dancefloor funk from the Nation’s Capital. True to form, Fort Knox Five incorporate horns and funky guitar lines throughout, so that “Ready Go” emerges as a disco-funk dance floor jam. Fort Knox Five got two of their favorite Vancouver-based producers to remix the track, Slynk and Neighbour. Slynk, originally from Australia, incorporates bass heavy glitch hop effects to create a blazing funk monster. Home Breakin’ Records own Neighbour takes the track in a different direction, the end result being a spandex-smooth indie disco banger.

This release is primed for the dancefloor, ranging in sounds from chunked out disco funk to glitch hop grooves and indie disco. This is the first single for Fort Knox Five’s forthcoming new album, due out in 2015. After spending the last few years concentrating on remixing other artists and showcasing the amazing talent on their label Fort Knox Recordings, the group has rechanneled their energy back to creating original material collaborating with a wide array of new guest vocalists.

This was featured on Fort Knox Five and Qdup's 2019 Shambhala Music Festival Fractal Forest Mix and has been a secret weapon of mine since last festival season. Jason Brown is Qdup, and has been making dance floors groove and butts move worldwide for over a decade. Qdup has had a steady string of acclaimed original releases with Washington, DC’s Fort Knox Recordings since 2013. His tunes have consistently made it into top 20 charts in the Glitch Hop, Funk and Breaks Genres on Beatport and Juno Download. From earning a nomination for a Washington Area Music Award for Hop Hop Recording of the year in 2013, to garnering Mixag’s “Breaks tune of the Month in October 2014, to coverage on some of the web’s hottest taste making blogs like Magnetic Mag, Surviving the Golden Age, Life Support Machine, Dance MusicNW and EDM Sauce; Qdup’s projects have consistently been praised by funky dance music aficionados world wide. Qdup broke out as a DJ on North America’s festival scene from 20012-17 including memorable sets at Shambhala Music Festival (BC, Canada), Firefly Fest (DE, USA), Art Outside (TX, USA), Gathering of the Vibes (Ct, USA), BassCoast (Merritt, Canada), Boogaloo (CA, USA) and P.E.X. (MD, USA). Late 2015 to 2016 saw Qdup join forces with longtime collaborator and label mate Steve Raskin of Fort Knox Five in a steady string of gigs performing their unique Four Deck Set. They’ve had a busy schedule with tours up on both coasts of the states, Colorado and Montana & have frequented Canada’s west coast BC and Alberta. Their touring included a festival run with Canadian favorite’s Shambhala (Salmo, Canada) & BassCoast (Merrit, Canada) and adding events like Sonic Bloom (CO), Northern Nights (CA, USA) and Burning Man (NV, USA). 
When not on tour, Qdup has played regularly at DC hot spots like Eighteenth Street Lounge, U-Street Music hall and Tropicalia where he along with Fort Knox Five have held their residency “Sao Funky” for 4 years. Qdup has also made the official promotional mix tapes for The DC Funk Parade 3 years running, further solidifying himself as one of DC’s most sought after party rockers. Since relocated to Los Angeles, Qdup has continued this trend frequently playing at some of LA’s best underground warehouse and festival venues.
