Qdup is no stranger to the Fort Knox Recordings family, he has appeared on multiple releases over the past few years, remixing the likes All Good Funk Alliance, Nappy Riddem and Fort Knox Five. Qdup has also become part of the Fort Knox stable of DJs, rocking clubs and festivals nationwide and throughout Canada. A well accomplished producer and remixer, Qdup also has releases on Bombstrikes, Goodgroove, ESL Music, Bombastic Jam, Ghetto Funk, Breakbeat Paradise, Royal Soul and his own Qdup Records.

Qdup’s, “Let’s Go EP” features DC native Flex Mathews on vocal duties to great effect. Flex’s old school party rocking lyrics on “Rock On It” are the perfect compliment to Qdup’s G-Funk meets Future Go-Go style beat. “Let’s Go” keeps the party vibe going with a funky, bass heavy hip-hop cut with clever rhymes and an infectious hook that’s sure to get people moving. Greek remixer Basement Freaks slowed down the tempo and turned up the horn-laden funk beats of “Rock On It”. Nynfus Corporation from Budapest, Hungary turn “Let’s Go” into a funky bass driven mid-tempo breaks banger. Texas’ own funky breaks master DJ Love pumps up the tempo on his remix of “Let’s Go” turning it into a head nodding funk workout.

The EP comes DJ friendly and ready to rock with full vocal and instrumental mixes on all of the tracks. As a veteran DJ himself, Qdup knows how to make beats for the dancefloor and this release has them all, from breaks and funk to hip-hop and future go-go, its all here.

An infectious brand of subterranean pop fused with soul, funk and breaks cleverly spliced together to create the distinctive sound of Grinny Grandad. Based on the scissors and string mind of Chris Morton, the bands reputation for originality has earned them shows at major festivals including Glastonbury and Beat-Herder .

Described as 'Motown meets Def Jam' by Groove Armada for their 2010 release 'The Good Girl', 2013 sees Grinny Grandad set to release their latest EP, 'The Car-Bootleg'. The lead track, 'Monty' which samples Fleetwood Mac's 'Oh Well', spliced seamlessly with a recreation of the 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' theme song is superbly topped with the vocals of Claire Swain. It is this gem that perfectly showcases the bands exuberance, earning the track comparisons to Jon Bonham of Led Zeppelin from BBC Radio 6 host, Tom Robinson.

The quirky undertone of 'Swim Fish' blends vocals reminiscent of 1930's Pioneer Days Mickey Mouse with hard hitting breaks. An unlikely marriage of music and yet it works incredibly well. The ability to successfully shift, merge and mix genres comes natural to Grinny Grandad. 

The final track on the EP, 'Q The Pimp', a floor filling break beat anthem with a smart groove, promises to render you helpless as the guitar riffs intensify and the rhythm swells fittingly paired with the line 'everybody rumble.' Not just anyone can sample PJ and Duncan and get away with it.

This summer Grinny Grandad will be performing on the festival circuit, starting with Beat-Herder festival in early July.

Jason Brown is Qdup, and has been making dance floors groove and butts move worldwide for over a decade. Now residing in Los Angeles, CA the Wasington DC area native brings DC Funk vibes along with West Coast Festival Sensibility to the dance floor. Over the years, Qdup has released top selling tunes and remixes on many well received labels from all over the world including Bombstrikes, Fort Knox Recordings, Goodgroove, Air, ESL Music, Royal Soul, Super Hi-Fi, MustBeat and his own Qdup Records imprint. 

Qdup has had a steady string of acclaimed original releases with Washington, DC’s Fort Knox Recordings since 2013. His tunes have consistently made it into top 20 charts in the Glitch Hop, Funk and Breaks Genres on Beatport and Juno Download. From earning a nomination for a Washington Area Music Award for Hop Hop Recording of the year in 2013, to garnering Mixag’s “Breaks tune of the Month in October 2014, to coverage on some of the web’s hottest taste making blogs like Magnetic Mag, Surviving the Golden Age, Life Support Machine, Dance MusicNW and EDM Sauce; Qdup’s projects have consistently been praised by funky dance music aficionados world wide. Qdup has also gained a following dropping his secret weapon DJ tunes to the masses as free downloads.

Qdup broke out as a DJ on North America’s festival scene from 20012-17 including memorable sets at Shambhala Music Festival (BC, Canada), Firefly Fest (DE, USA), Art Outside (TX, USA), Gathering of the Vibes (Ct, USA), BassCoast (Merritt, Canada), Boogaloo (CA, USA) and P.E.X. (MD, USA). Late 2015 to 2016 saw Qdup join forces with longtime collaborator and label mate Steve Raskin of Fort Knox Five in a steady string of gigs performing their unique Four Deck Set. They’ve had a busy schedule with tours up on both coasts of the states, Colorado and Montana & have frequented Canada’s west coast BC and Alberta. Their touring included a festival run with Canadian favorite’s Shambhala (Salmo, Canada) & BassCoast (Merrit, Canada) and adding events like Sonic Bloom (CO), Northern Nights (CA, USA) and Burning Man (NV, USA). 
When not on tour, Qdup has played regularly at DC hot spots like Eighteenth Street Lounge, U-Street Music hall and Tropicalia where he along with Fort Knox Five have held their residency “Sao Funky” for 4 years. Qdup has also made the official promotional mix tapes for The DC Funk Parade 3 years running, further solidifying himself as one of DC’s most sought after party rockers. Since relocated to Los Angeles, Qdup has continued this trend frequently playing at some of LA’s best underground warehouse and festival venues.
