really liking this piece tonight. definitely a rhythm in there that gets really hypnotic. fun to perform and zone out to. definitely loop and ambient, but churning. can you find that rhythm?

today's sound comes courtesy of 3 loops. one running off of the nebulae module, another a loop in the modcan cv record i made from a guitar and the third is the modcan being looped and pitched up by the phonogene.

there's a little metallic sine wave that comes in and out which is the make noise dpo. the envelope/volume for that is being provided by the e355 morphing lfo.

as usual lately, a bunch of it is running through a nice liquidy pittsburgh filter that i move around a bit.

this would have been a cool patch for a live gig.

Jan 19, 2014 (night loop)

"Sonic Bodies" was a performance by Scanner and Stephen Vitiello with guests David Shively (percussion) and Jennifer Choi (violin) of the Either/Or ensemble. Visualizations were provided by Madeleine Gallagher.

"Sonic Bodies" was the culmination of Scanner and Vitiello's research at MIT. With this performance of immersive, spatialized sound,  the artists explored the resonance of the body by placing the audience within a group of speakers that shifted and sculpted a sonic landscape. The program was part of a semester-long residency produced in collaboration with the Center for Art, Science & Technology and part of the project Resonating MIT.

Initial experiment with Make Noise ERBE VERB, DIY Buchla 291 Dual VC Bandpass Filter & Qu-Bit NEBULAE. Incorporating amplitude modulation, frequency modulation, granular & digital spaciality on a monophonic plane. 

This is not music.

Vocal Modulation Experiment II (monophonic)

based on yesterday's modular patch using the doepfer a-152 sequential switch.... this time everything's being directed by a qu-bit nano rand module.

4 inputs go into the switch. a sample from the qu-bit nebulae, a sample from the music thing radio music, and two outputs from a mutable instruments elements module.

the nano rand is being clocked from and sync'd to the delay time of a make noise echophon. the nano rand's random gate outs are switching through the sequential switch while the random LFO from the nano rand is modulating a doepfer a-102 filter that the signals are going through.

the noise output from the nano-rand is feeding back into its own sample and hold input and the sample and hold output is modulating the position of a mutable clouds module which is also processing the audio signal.

the nano rand is making a great centerpiece of random, yet related, control and modulation signals in this patch.

i had it running for about 3 hours as i worked on a graphic design project and it was forever changing and interesting. this is 7 minutes of that...

I'm preferring the Nebulae module more as a Csound player than a granulator.  Lots of possibilities...need to learn Csound!  Until then, I'll lean on other talented developers.  The main sounds in this recording come from Devin Powers' "Plucked Patterns":

stephen vitiello was in the studio for a couple of days this month and we did some great, sparse work using only a banjo and a hohner pianet. making loops and performances. this is one of the pieces.
