In the desert 
On the dunes
A Monoceros


Few have glimpsed him
Oh they hear him 
His song shows
your destiny 

 Divine spirit, protector of the land
Melody drifts calmly on the wind
some men, can’t quite comprehend

His tune,  not for all the same
Plays songs of love or songs of pain
tells a future of loss or gain.

My horn umasks your fate
My melody is your destiny

Sultan comes to hear his tune
Jumping out from behind a dune
expects to depart appeased

But the notes they portend a life 
Wrought with sorrow, and his reign shall end
 slay him, say the sultan to his men
 
Break the curse he has cast upon me!

(bump bump bump part)
The chase ensues…..

Dead of Night
Torches bright
Sharpened spears
Time to start running the sultan he nears

The desert shakes
Shadhavar breaks
For the place 
The Sultan won’t find him, he cannot be seen

The men the move fast 
Shadhavar gasps
can’t slow down
Tips of the spears begin to surround

And at last 
 within their grasp
Nearing collapse
Spears into the air they are cast

In an instant 
Swooping down
Come the eagles
Catch the spears

Sultans camels
turn against him
 save their god
So Shadhavar remains….

Steady On

Quickfix followers will by now hopefully be well accustomed with Andy Hill AKA The Subtheory. After a long history of collaboration with the label’s artists Lee Christian, Half Decent and The Prohibition Smokers’ Club culminated last ‘Summertime’ with his remix for Janelle Monae side-man Kellindo (which is bound to return to people’s playlists as the sun creeps out this year), The Subtheory was a perfect choice for the Quickfix Digital Singles Club.

His recent EPs Ventura Blvd and Impact were big favourites with the label, fans of our New Music on Monday playlists and in the synth-wave genre and community. With plenty of diverse projects on the horizon between scoring, a new concept album and various stand alone singles and EPs, the future is bright for The Subtheory.

He’s joined on this track by guitarist Sam Brox, who you might remember from awesome 90s Manchester cult band The Dust Junkys. On this track, Sam trades his signature Hendrixian vibes for some distinctly 80s power-rock, perhaps channelling one of his heroes, the recently deceased Eddie Van Halen (RIP). A unique collaboration bringing together the worlds of 80s electro and pyrotechnic rock. Go ahead and jump!

With a long career working with major record labels and two critically acclaimed albums behind him with his Death of Hi Fi project, Hill is exploring the deeper electronic side of his music and influences. The Subtheory sound speaks of Andy Hill’s experience splitting his time between the UK and Los Angeles but it isn’t straight up palm trees and Testarossas. The music draws from a darker, grittier version of a neo-retro dystopia: Bladerunner noir meets cyberpunk detective?

Andy Hill has always loved making music. Starting off with his parents’ mono record collection as he created on-the-fly remixes with pause buttons and the early days of MPC samplers, before moving into the fully digital age of software DAWs. Through the years, Hill has experimented and explored many genres but with a sustained ethos to create music that moves people - whether it be their feet, their hearts or their minds.

Andy Hill’s music has been featured on BBC primetime TV, in Working Title films and on TV sporting event coverage including the Olympics, Boxing, American Football, European Football Championships, and the legendary Match of the Day. His single “Swim Away” finished as a semi-finalist in the 2015 UK Song of the Year competition.

Away from his own music Hill also presents a fortnightly electronic music radio show, is an avid hiker and climber having summited Mount Kilimanjaro. He is also a committed supporter of human rights causes.

Lyrics feature poetry written by Jen's late Mum, who passed away in 2012. Written as a conversation between mother and daughter. 
101 vocal tracks - all Jen, with piano, trumpet and synth also performed by the writer. 
I'll be working with charities to raise awareness of using music and writing as a means to cope with bereavement, with an extensive social media campaign.

Quickfix Recordings is an independent label based in Oxford, UK.
 
It was started with the aim of giving the flagging music industry a much - needed shot of musical excitement. Ten years down the line and over 20 successful releases (including debuts by bands such as Youthmovie Sountrack Strategies and Smilex) Quickfix Recordings continues to push new music.
 
The idea of Quickfix Recordings was conceived whilst living in Manchester in 1997 where we were inspired by the attitude of the local DIY Music scene there. Manchester had a lot going for it not only was it the home of the legendry Factory Records it was also home to InTheCity and the developing Beehive Mill and Northern Quarter scene. We soon set up a small online compilation tape subscription label called Glass Axe. Each tape was hand copied over old spoken word and nursery rhyme tapes and sent to subscribers featuring the best in up and coming unsigned bands from both Oxford and Manchester. 

In 2000 we returned to Oxford, in the time we had been away the Oxford Music scene had exploded with the coming of Radio 1 Sound City. Great bands such as the The Rock of Travolta, Meanwhile Back in Communist Russia, Eeeblee and a girl band called Caliber had formed and so Quickfix Recordings was born. Our debut release by Caliber 'Someday Now' was released in the January 2002. 

Quickfix Recordings soon developed from being a basic record label and progressed to artist management, recording, gig promoting and radio shows. 

For a number of years we put together the popular local music radio show 'The Fortnightly Fix' on Oxford's Passion 107.9fm and have also had shows on student radio Oxide and OX4 Radio. 

Over the past 10 years we have promoted gigs at many Oxfordshire venues including The Wheatsheaf, Fat Lils, The Ex Hall, Kiss Bar, The Zodiac and The Port Mahon. Gig promotion for us started with helping book bills for the local Abingdon Skittle Alley collective back in 2002, we then helped with the One Louder nights at The Wheatsheaf when, in 2004 we took over the regular monthly slot and turned them into Quickfix Recordings nights. Over the years we have put on a whole host of bands of all styles from Oxfordshire and also further a field, including Frank Turner, Meanwhile... Back In Communist Russia, Fixers, Youthmovies, To The Bones, Nought and Meet Me In St Louis. 

10 years on we still continue to push new music.
