My performance of THE Fantasie-Impromptu has been removed because of an erroneous copyright claim. so I improvised this one to take it's place for a while, hoping that they'll reinstate my version of Chopin's masterpiece. 

Fantasy Impromptu

Darkest Green is an original piano composition from my project Butterflies, which has nothing to do with their aesthetics but rather their symbolism - exploring themes of transformation, emergence, inner metamorphosis.

This piece explores the hidden beauty of change, and the fragile power of transcendence, as it moves through shadows and feelings of uncertainty, with fluttering textures and expansive sweeps that reflect the tension between darkness and the fertile possibility of becoming.

Trying to return to a bit of writing. 

This was a work in progress... occasionally!     Piece started  20-ish years ago & picked up (very) intermittently since.  Written with children's media in mind.    Not quite finished compositionally, dynamic interest incomplete & unmixed. 

Don't have the technical know-how to create a good production even if I do ever get to the point where I think the notes are right!  Still ambivalent re: whether it's worth persisting or if I should simply drop it.    Advice appreciated.

I wanted to capture a piece of my life in New York, blending hip hop, Latin, brasshouse, salsa, and jazz, all wrapped in my signature fantasy orchestral style. This one was pure joy to make, maybe the most fun I’ve ever had writing music, and I hope that energy comes through when you listen.

Recorded live at South Hill Park arts centre, Bracknell on a very hot Midsummer night. Please excuse the background noises, we had to have the windows open on this very hot and wonderful evening, and children were still playing in the park....lovely

This clip of a BBC radio broadcast from 45 years ago is my first airing on radio from a concert on the Christie organ of the Astra cinema, Llandudno. Immediately after the interview, Roy Bently, then the managing director of the Hutchinson Cinema group offered me the job of accompanying the experimental revival of daytime screenings of silent movies they were doing at the Astra to entertain the holidaymakers on rainy days during the summer season! Thus this was my first paid job composing and improvising music for movies back in the early 70's. The Christie was a British made theatre organ constructed by the highly regarded Hill Norman and Beard pipe organ company. It was designed to compete with the American Wurlitzer being imported into UK cinemas in the 1920's by none other than my publisher, De Wolfe! I first heard these instruments on my old 78 rpm wind up record player and was absolutely entranced at the age of four by the amazing sounds they could produce. Little did I know I would be playing the same instruments within 5 years. If you ever get a chance please have a listen my great hero Sidney Torch playing Orient Express on the Christie of the Regal Edmonton. I never met Sidney Torch but he was a great influence. Not only was he a fellow composer writing for De Wolfe, it was his own instrument at the Regal where I first played the cinema organ ; )

First Radio Broadcast 1972

A segue of a number of my compositions for period dramas and romance published by De Wolfe Music, mostly featuring orchestral strings and piano. It has been my great pleasure and privilege to conduct and work with the finest UK musicians from the very best orchestras including The London Telefilmonic. LSO, RPO, BBC Concert Orchestra and I am just about keeping up on piano on some of the tracks ; ) Unlike many film composers I do all my own orchestral scoring and arrangements.
