Calm Study Two, Celestial Study

Third in the series. A short extract of the initial sketches for this new work. Called Loco, the piece follows on immediately after 'Made from Dust', and I have included the last few bars of the previous work in this snippet, with a short silence between that and the start of Loco so you get the effect, and can hear the relationship between the two works. So keep listening or miss out!

Ancient Stones of Kernow is an arts based project which focuses on the prehistory of the far west of Cornwall, in the very southwest of Great Britain. As a part of the project a body of music was written to highlight the atmosphere of the areas landscape. The seminal musical work of the project The Cornish Soundscape ‘An Ancient Land’ was expanded into this major stage work the ballet ‘Mid-Summer Rituals’. This has the summer solstice practises of the neolithic inhabitants of the Zennor area of west Cornwall at its heart and centres around their ceremonial monument ‘Zennor Quoit’. Which still survives in the landscape today. The work consists of 2 acts each of which is made up of a sequence of atmospheric narrations and theatrical dance episodes.
