This is not exactly a classical piece — I created it in the spring of 2013, and only now I finally feel ready to share it. For years it seemed unfinished to me, but its moment has come. 

Spring's Lovers

Story
M’boko – He Who Opened the Earth
Long before the sun first rose over the savanna, the earth's surface was a desert of stone and silence. There were no trees, no rivers, no birdsong. All that lived slept in the deep womb of the underworld, where roots were skies and caverns, oceans.
From that hidden world emerged M’boko, the first man. He wasn't born: he formed slowly, like a statue sculpted by time and the will of ancient spirits. His skin was fertile clay, his eyes two black moons, and his breath carried the scent of flowers that did not yet exist.
With his hands, M’boko opened fissures in the earth. From them came the animals: the leopard with its stealth, the elephant with its memory, the antelope with its dance. Then came the plants: the baobab with its wisdom, the acacia with its protective thorn, the yam with its sustenance.
Every step M’boko took left footprints that became rivers. Every word he spoke became wind, rain, fire. He wasn’t a god, but the gods regarded him with respect, for he had done what they dared not: bring life to the world above.
The people of the Congo say that M’boko did not die. He sank back into the earth, carrying with him the seeds of the future. In every new sprout, in every newborn animal, there is a whisper of his presence. Some shamans claim that, if you listen closely in the dead of night, you can hear his song beneath the earth, preparing the rebirth of what has yet to be dreamed.
