CAN'T SLEEP (feat. Devilish Trio)

The Massacre of Glencoe (1692) is one of the most memorable event in Scottish history, particularly for clan MacDonald.
Here’s my own version that takes its part in this remembrance: based upon both a bagpipe tune and a song by Jim McLean (“The Massacre of Glencoe” released in 1963) and on some new arrangements.

Acoustic Astronaut has been recognized by the New Mexico Music Awards, VH1’s Save the Music Foundation, Song of the Year and many more. The greatest satisfaction for Acoustic Astronaut are the listeners. It’s like discovering a hidden asteroid of diamonds and gold.  The songwriter & executive producer, Dave Alyassin, is very grateful for the opportunity to create, play and produce music over the years. It's one small step for music and one giant leap for Acoustic Astronaut. Bands that have covered AA’s material include Texas’ own J Ryan https://soundcloud.com/j-ryan, The West Coast original progressive rock band, Hands of Time, & New Mexico’s own songwriter Troy Garrity https://troygarrity.bandcamp.com/.

Dave Alyassin has been writing songs for about 30 years now.  Acoustic Astronaut’s biggest hit single is Mystical Ages was originally released under the Racecar moniker. The self-titled album was released in 2000, was distributed and played around the world with Mystical showing up on numerous compilations including the Guess Who’s Canadian label. The album was recorded by David Cragin in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Cragin produced all of the songs and added all of the cool instrumentation that make the album the great listening experience that it is. 20 years later the re-mastered song and accompanying new video is splashing down around the world again catching the ears of a new generation.

The 2nd album, Dance Like a Ghost, under the same band name was awarded Best Rock CD in New Mexico and was produced in Albuquerque, New Mexico by Academy Award nominee, Jeffery Mettling at Trinity Recording Studios. Both Racecar albums were mastered in Santa Fe, New Mexico by Andrew Click at Stepbridge Studio. Guest appearances include Simon Widdowson, Jon Trujillo, Anya Alyassin, Gamze Guckiran and Willy Magee. Also, David Cragin of Santa Fe Soundworks, Steven Howell of Jonasol Studio & Julian Lopez of Crazy Productions Studio.

Judges awarding the album included Rick Derringer, who has played with The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, Alice Cooper, Steely Dan, Kiss, Todd Rundgren and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Rick’s classic hit, "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo" is a standard. Other judges included Elvin Bishop and Randy Brecker. Randy has seven Grammy nominations under his belt and a double Grammy for the album "Out of the Loop''. He has played with Stanley Clarke, Eric Clapton, James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, Chaka Khan, George Benson, Larry Coryell, David Sanborn and Frank Zappa.

Now under the Acoustic Astronaut, Dave is flexing his production prowess on new releases such as Feathers From My Wing and Destruction Mill. Some good recordings recently came out of Stats Movement Records in Albuquerque, notably, an original looped riff called Just a Babe. Rojello and The Crazy Mexican did him right.

Acoustic Astronaut had an underground classic song called Music Heroes of America with their publisher in Nashville, Diamond Garden Music. The song has been pitched to prominent producers who listen to songs for Kenny Chesney, Willie Nelson, Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Chris Stapleton among other recording artists. Another song is on the way to them.

Light and Darkness

On a cold, moonless night, Light and Darkness met in a deserted forest. The Light was nothing more than a weak spark, barely more than a glow. The Darkness was all-encompassing, thick as ink and impenetrable.

Darkness: "What are you doing here, little spark? Can't you see this is my realm? I devour everything that comes in my way."

Light: "I may be small, but I am still here. And as long as I exist, I am a sign of hope."

Darkness laughed deeply and thunderously, like an approaching storm.

Darkness: "Hope? You are nothing! A small breath is enough to extinguish you."

The Light flickered slightly, but it stood firm.

Light: "Perhaps you can extinguish me, but even in my disappearance, the memory of me remains. And wherever there is a spark of hope, new light can arise."

The Darkness was silent for a moment, then it thickened even more to suffocate the Light.

Darkness: "Try it then. I have already extinguished countless lights, and each time the night only became darker and more powerful."

The Light now shone a bit brighter, as if nourished by an inner strength.

Light: "Maybe you underestimate me. Every flame starts small, but it can grow and become stronger. It can bring warmth and light, even into the deepest darkness."

Darkness began to seethe, feeling that the Light was not weakening but growing stronger.

Darkness: "What nonsense! You will suffocate in my embrace!"

But the Light now glowed with a definite strength, its glow growing into a flame.

Light: "I am the light of hope and renewal. Even if you envelop me, I will break through. For where there is light, darkness cannot exist."

With these words, the Light spread further, its rays piercing through the Darkness, piercing it like a thousand tiny arrows. The Darkness whimpered, retreated, unable to bear the growing brightness.

Light: "It is time for you to retreat. Your grip is not infinite. Where there is light, darkness cannot exist."

The Darkness retreated further and further, until it was only a shadow in the corners. The Light now shone bright and clear, filling the forest with a warmth that had previously been missing.

Darkness: "You may have won, this time. But I will always return."

Light: "And I will always be here to push you back. For just as the day follows the night, so does light follow darkness. And in every battle, I will triumph again."

The Darkness finally disappeared, and the forest was bathed in warm, golden light. The Light had triumphed, and with it, hope returned to the world.
