Music is a universal language across the world as is peace. This medley cover is my dedication to the common language of both music and peace. It is a medley of two songs: Gurus of Peace (Album: Vande Mataram) and Vellai Pookal (Movie: Kannathil Mutthamittal). Both songs strung together, show that whether in English, Hindi, Tamil, or any language- the beauty of music, peace, and a child's smile is universal. Prayer For Peace

This medley begins with the Jugal Bandi instrumental tune from the movie “Armaan” - a beautiful dialogue between a father and son,  a parent and a child, that played through a violin and saxophone. It was a song that connected two generations as this medley attempts to do.  The medley continues to show perhaps the phases of life that both a parent and child experience… beginning from childhood with “Meri Maa” from “Taare Zameen Par”, to youth with “Aao Naa” from “Kyun! Ho Gaya Na”, to the learning over time to live life to its fullest with “Kal Ho Na Ho” from the movie of the same name.  All these songs are by the music director trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and is dedicated to their beautiful compositions that bring to life the various seasons of life.  

Jugal Bandi Loop- Medley of Shankar - Ehsaan - Loy songs

This song is a tribute to "Desh" - both the Desh (Country / Motherland in Hindi) and the Raag Desh (a Raag is a set of notes that define a melody in Indian classical music). 

Raag Desh is part  of the Khamaaj family of raagas, known for its ambience of spring, love, and celebration. Raag Desh goes a step further as it embodies love for the country as well. 

This song is a fusion of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay's poem "Vande Mataram" and a South Indian Carnatic Thillana in Raag Desh composed by Lalgudi Jayaraman. 

"Vande Mataram" is a salute to the Motherland and all that she bestows upon us, including Her streams and bounty of resources, Her caressing breeze, Her wisdom, and Her dreams, shining in the hearts and minds of millions. 

The Thillana is a fast-paced composition, which typically reflects a finale in a South Indian dance performance. It is an attempt to reflect the opportunity for all of us to play a role in how our Motherland can reach Her full potential, with a crescendo of new ideas, new talent, and new innovation.
