First 15 minutes: Myyuh, second 15 minutes: Carmen Sandiego, guest DJ: Luma. LUMA is an Iraqi-British DJ and radio host from SE London. A triple-residency threat (Balamii, AAJA and Netil Radio), LUMA has been steadily building a unique sonic identity through her eclectic percussive and club-centered sets, which primarily aim to showcase femxle and nb artists from South West Asia (Middle East) and North Africa. LUMA runs Habibti Nation, a collective and radio show on Balamii, highlighting underground electronic music from the SWANA/MENA region with a focus on femxle and non-binary artists. LUMA also co-runs Don’t Hide, a club night and radio show on Netil Radio centred on community, inclusivity and fun. This mix was an exploration of my own musical identity and British-Iraqi identity, experimenting mixing contemporary electronic sounds from the MENA/SWANA region and diaspora with UK and global club ready rhythms. All tracks are united by a percussive focus and the melting point is within the cross section of Arabic-darbuka-dancehall-dembow-UK techno sounds. This fusion of a mix is a musical representation of my own identity, influenced by living in and being raised in urban SE London combined with my Arabic heritage. I wanted to highlight some of my fave producers at the moment and was inspired by the stuff that I have been enjoying playing out and listening to in clubs. I focused on creating a slower tempo for this mix and slowly building it up as I have been running on quite high energy recently so wanted to take it down a notch! Although it is still a very club ready mix!
