Q. How would you describe yourself?
A. Passionate & particular about the things I am allowed to control & def a porcupine. 

Q. How long have you been a part of the NYC music scene?
A. 2010 is when I met my idols (Venus X, Shannon Funchess, and Lauren Flax) and DJ'd at Home Sweet Home.

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.
A. My love for 90s techno records feels inescapable and ever expanding. I got a number of new records over the last year from a 90s collection sold at Brooklyn Record Exchange so this has some of those and some that have been in my collection for many years. I initially got in to these loopy fast techno records because they were so unpopular and cheap and it has been interesting to see them become so popular again and a rise of people caring about the history and who made them. I'm sure many of the artists think it's silly that I have attached myself to their pasts. Shout out to Tracy and Ren who are maybe the only two people that get me in this regard. Shout out to Akilah Bryant who made very few but such incredible techno records, one of which is in here. So many things have happened in the last years, months, weeks, days, that we just cannot process it all. We shut down. We become cynical, apathetic. We pretend. We cover it all with dust and bad jokes. 

The year ends the way it started. With the sour-sweet taste of the end of the world in our lips. Bad days, sad days, mad days. And the annoying feeling of having lived it all a year ago makes it more weary. We’re wearing second-hand anxieties from 2020. 

Recently I wanted to connect with those I find further than ever, so I asked people around me to tell me how they feel - or how they don’t. I put together pieces of them in a mix with which I wanted to highlight that we feel the same pain. And it's nice to remember that sometimes.

CMD is Corina MacDonald, a Montreal music producer, DJ, and radio programmer whose DJ sets and live performances fuse synth-laden aesthetics of techno, electro and house music. CMD has released a series of EPs to date that reflect a range of musical influences and preoccupations. Her most recent endeavors include Social Factory Reset (Fixed Rhythms 2021) and Precarious Pursuit (2021), as well as contributions to the Montreal-based fundraising compilations Re:Conceive (2023) and Dances Across Borders (2020, 2022). She has performed at many of Montreal’s iconic electronic music events, such as MUTEK and Piknic Electronik, as well as in underground clubs and parties, and has been billed alongside a variety of international acts including Ben Klock, Plaid, Lauren Flax and Robert Hood. As the host of Modular Systems on CKUT 90.3 FM she presents new music, guest mixes and live performances every other Sunday afternoon.
