Niger's opposition leader was arrested when he flew back to Niamey at the week-end. Hama Amadou fled to France last year when his name was mentioned in a child trafficking probe. Hama, a former speaker of the national assembly and ally of President Mahamadou Issoufou, had pledged to stand in the presidential election next February. He flew to Paris last year before investigators could question him about a criminal network accused of selling dozens of Nigerian babies to wealthy couples in Niger.
