Sofie is a composer and violinist from Denmark and a participant of the 5th International Young Composers Academy Ticino. Currently, she is pursuing a master's degree in composition at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with Helena Tulve as her mentor. She is a keen improviser and also a player of traditional music.

When writing the piece for the Ictus Ensemble I had the wish to work with substances of sounds. Sound itself being a source of arrival and departure of both the physicality of things and the utopian dream world. The title of the piece “Which seemed, when dreamed, to mean so profoundly much” I found in Sylvia Plath’s poem “The Ghost’s Leavetaking:

“Enter the chilly no man's land of precisely
Five o'clock in the morning, the no-color void
Where the waking head rubbishes out the draggled lot
Of sulfurous dreamscapes and obscure lunar conundrums
Which seemed, when dreamed, to mean so profoundly much”

In this piece I try to touch the audience in a literal way - not only with sounds of instruments hidden-under-dense-tape, but also with 20 fans (ventilators). As the piece evolves the fans become more and more present, creating a perception-tickling balance of aerial sound qualities with real air. 
By this piece I also relate to a whole genre of XX-c. new music pieces focusing on “air”, including compositions by Lachenman, Berio, Takemitsu, Holliger. The tape is constructed with convoluted and granulated recordings of aforementioned pieces with actual wind recordings or/and recordings of instruments and human body.

Latin 'dualis' — 'twin' from duo — 'two', 
late Latin 'labilis' — 'wavering, impermanent, temporal’. 

The word "dualism" has many meanings. In philosophy, it is the idea that certain wholes are created out of two irreducible, incompatible or complimentary components. In physics, dualism most often refers to the twin nature of quantum objects, such as photons and electrons. Meanwhile, in ontology dualism represents the body and soul, and in theology - good and evil.

In the composition titled Dualabilis dualism is found in the relation between the acoustic layer and electronics, between composition and improvisation, and often also between musicians and their instruments which either compete with or complement each other. The musical material is also juxtaposed in terms of separateness and independence, or else complementarity. It is not only the content of the composition, which contains dualistic aspects. Its form is also divided into sections, which are polarised between each other — being opposed to each other as separate sound phenomena shaped in accordance with diverse types of narration. 

The second section of the title refers to the idea of instability, changeability, the shift towards extreme states. In this composition most of the phenomena evolves or else suddenly transforms and shifts into new and often extremely different states (dynamic, agogic, textured, timbral).
